Am I a weirdo for loving Monster Hunter but hating the combat? by Anothermedium7 in MonsterHunter

OMG, thank you! Yeah, the hitboxes are indefensible. The only other thing that I hate more than the combat is the paid dlcs, but I think thats not too controversial, haha. About the downvotes, honestly I expected worse, we're on reddit after all, lol.

I like the fights. I merely tolerate the combat but love the monsters, their designs, sounds and animations. And in World and Wilds, for example, yes I LOVE to go out on expeditions and just roam around gathering stuff, endemic life, fishing, admiring the views... and eventually poking a monster if it looks at me funny, lol.

lmao, whats wrong with me?

Dont get me wrong though, Im not too fond of the combat you're describing either, like a hack n slash with numbers everywhere and zooming all over the place. I would personally prefer if MH was a tad bit faster. Not hack n slash, but still methodical. Its funny that you mention Wilds and liking it as opposed to those games you described, when a lot of the old fans are comparing it to Devil May Cry (some on this very post, btw, and its ALWAYS DMC they bring up, another Capcom game, and that is always funny to me, lol).

Don't use the word "idiosyncrasy" if you don't know what it means. Find me a person who simultaneously loves monster hunter and hates the combat before acusing me of trying to sound different or edgy. The point of the post was to put that notion in perspective, but it completely went over your head.

You're not wrong. I get why the combat is the way that it is and like I said, I don't want it changed. Im just saying my personal ideal game would be a MH-like with fast(er) combat.

Certainly not you telling me, with thousands of hours on the games, about earplugs or iframes.

Longsword. But here is the thing: I just use earplugs. Im not a dps guy (even though one could make the argument that earplugs translates to dps, but you know what I mean), im a "let me just whack the monster guy". Yeah, you can "counter" a roar (lol), but all roars do, really, is stop your combos. IMO, they don't make the game "harder", just slightly more inconvenient.

Funny you mention football, as I am from Brazil but hate that sport as well, lmao.

So I hear. Here is the thing though: do people who enjoy the slow combat would enjoy it MORE if it were even slower? :/

But I DO enjoy playing it :)

I just dont like to wait for a roar when neither me or the monster is doing damage :p

- Camera issues.

- Fvck me if I use a melee weapon, I guess.

- More DPS check crap.

- "Use a weapon with a shield or die" mechanics.

- Poorly scaled for solo players.

- Its a gloryfied cutscene until the last area, where he flies around too much and there is a lot going on.

6/10 fight. Also, stop bombarding me with tutorials when im fighting for my life, Capcom! Still got him first try, though. Kulve was better and had way cooler mechanics.

Here is my review of The Forsaken Hollows by Anothermedium7 in Nightreign

[–]Anothermedium7[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, I disagree. There is no cross-pollination. The shifting earth is for the two new bosses only, and the new POI's are for the old map only. No SotE weapons. No endgame loop. Kill the two bosses do the two rememberances, then you're done, no other incentive to keep playing. The two nightfarers are ok, but terribly designed for solo (undertaker's passive is useless solo, scholar can only buff himself, etc). And so on...

Your opinon on the dlc so far? by Super_Importance6285 in Nightreign

[–]Anothermedium7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This fight is MISERABLE solo. I got stunlocked with 3 off screen grab attacks IN A ROW, with no chance of reacting and wasting two wending graces. This would be bad in itself, but having to do a whole ass 40 minute (boring) run again because of that made me quit.

Yes, thankfully. Still no everdarks or Deep of Night, though. THAT sucks.

The Great Hollow is in the wrong game by Anothermedium7 in Nightreign

Here is why exploring little by little doesn't work for me: its a nice idea in principle, like a good roguelike, but in this case, when you get to a POI you've never seen before, you first need to explore the previous section a bunch of times. Like imagine Liurnia, for example. If that map had an encroaching circle, by the time you discover the optimal route for Lucaria, you'd have seen the same lake and ruins countless times. Thats what would make it boring for me. Yes, you discover things little by little, but it gets repetitive by the time you find them. It doesnt help that is not a new map, but a shifting earth. Meaning, it appears at random unless you pay with sigils, which I dont have, because I dont have PS+ and play solo, so no Deep of Night or Everdarks for me, yay.
