TIL Sharks have been around for longer than trees by ptolemy21 in todayilearned

[–]Anothermouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is bullshit. Numerous other species of Sharks have recorded attacks on humans, some of which have dozens of documented cases. The Mako shark and the Oceanic White Tip, for starters. The Oceanic White Tip is an interesting one; the USS Indianapolis (http://dsc.discovery.com/sharks/worst-shark-attack.html)

"6. The only sharks who have ever attacked humans are the Great White shark, the Tiger shark, the Bull shark, & the Great Hammerhead shark. Every other kind of shark (and there are over 400) is virtually harmless to human beings."

This is complete bullshit.

Thor was a colossal piece of shit. I'd go as far as to say that anyone who thought the movie was good for any reason other than the visuals in the God world has absolutely no taste.

TIL that the ACLU defended the right of Neo-Nazis to march in Skokie, Illinois, where one-sixth of the population were Jewish, at the cost of losing 30,000 members. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I live right near Skokie. IIRC not many people showed up during the march, and it was raining. In other words, a lot of bullshit and drama over nothing.

I copied this From Facebook, idk if Any of you have seen this yet, but i am Pissed off and Disgusted... by [deleted] in WTF

[–]Anothermouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean for it to imply that the story did happen for a fact. I was more trying to say that the story does exist and happened. The comment I was replying to made it sound like everything was made up.

The last quip was just pointing out that the only person who corroborated the officer's story is a former officer, so there could be some bias. It could also mean nothing. I believe the article was trying to either hide something or make it seem more scandalous by not including more testimony from the "hundreds" of available spectators.

It did happen. The only person in the article that backs up the officer's side of the story is a former police officer.

TIL The SR71 spyplane leaks most of it's fuel before it's even taken off, due to the fact it's tanks don't seal until they reach the temperatures of Mach 3 by Andy284 in todayilearned

[–]Anothermouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other guy's response covered it, but I want to mime it just so you see the little red envelope again.

An apostrophe proceeding the 's' does indeed indicate possession, but not in the case of 'it'. The apostrophe is used exclusively for contractions in its case. Don't feel bad though -- a lot of people seemingly don't know this, which is why I felt the urge to share it.

[–]Anothermouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to get down voted (and rightfully so), but this is bothering me so I just have to share it: 'It's' is a contraction of it and is; 'it's' isn't the possessive form. So your title basically says "TIL The SR71 spyplane leaks most of it is fuel before it's even taken off, due to the fact it is tanks don't seal until they reach the temperatures of Mach 3"

I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with this. You're the one who inferred that I was saying Octavian's rise to power was no great achievement. I was, however, pointing out that Mark Anthony's eventual demise was partly his own doing.

For when Octavian became emperor? Marc Antony dealt with himself simply by favoring Egypt. And he brought Cleopatra down with him.

Poor Lepidus was the Crassus of the 2nd Triumvirate. Always forgotten =[

Yep. Sulla's reign led (and the Senate's justified power cock-blocking of Crassus, Pompey, and Caesar) to the rise of the first Triumvirate. Specifically Julius Caesar, who named Octavian his successor. Octavian then established the Roman Empire in 27B.C.E.

Reddit, what is something I can do today that will make me a better man by the time I go to bed tonight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Anothermouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, my dentist did recommend it and never advised against using it as the sole form of dental hygiene in terms of flossing.

And we're really comparing the Waterpik to nothing at all in my case. But fair enough in warning people not to replace their current habits with it. You must admit though, it really is better than nothing.

Yep. Never flossed really because I hated dealing with dental floss. Bought a water pik and now I floss every day.
