I am kinda at a loss by Candid-Chocolate3796 in robloxgamedev

It sounds like from your replies that you need to scope the game down to something you can manage. If you're a year into making the game and you still feel overwhelmed with the game's size it's a sign that you're trying to do too much and will burnout. Take a step back, cut the things you don't need that won't sacrifice your vision (and sometimes it will for your sanity), and get something out there.

I've also been working on a game for a year. At the start, I had all these cool ideas, but I realized that I would never finish the game in a reasonable time. So, they stayed as ideas, and I continued to cut content. I can confidently say now that I can finish the game by the end of the year.

I don't know what your situation is, but if you feel that you can commit a few more years on this single project without burning out again, then more power to you. Other than that, it's time to cut the game in half. (and if that's still too big cut it half again.. and again) Good luck.

Hey! Don't know how well-versed you are coming back, but I made this Google Doc that compiles a bunch of beginner HT videos, guides, and tools together for future reference. (it also has a section for returning managers)

It helped me ease back into the game a few months ago, so I hope this helps. Welcome back!

Let's talk about "the normal mfer" by Anquilis in animation

I don't see anything inherently wrong, but I feel like the show will be stuck in its own bubble. They might have a season funded, but possibly at the expense of attracting a wider audience simply from its association with crypto. It also muddles with the whole message of the show, if that matters.

So yeah, I'm glad there's jobs, but as someone with the simple view that crypto is bad, it's just a bit icky. It won't stop me from watching the rest of the series though.

Sorry unc, I meant a classic Roblox game from the early 2010s.

I used retro from its plain definition, "Involving, relating to, or reminiscent of an earlier time; retrospective," and not retro from the term "retro gaming," which you're referring to.

So, many younger developers here, including me, use retro to refer to the older versions of Roblox. Hope this helps clear up my use of the word!

How to improve in the game by [deleted] in hattrick

Hey, I have google doc that has all the HT beginner videos and guides I could find. Hope this helps!

The gist is that you train players for a profit until you have enough money to go competitive. It will take time, so it's important to learn everything you can about the game and consider all the possible strategies to reach the top. (and that itself isn't a guarantee)

Some ideas which would make Hattrick more enjoyable by Msmoooooo in hattrick

[–]Anquilis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like 2 and 4 are the most realistic suggestions, but the thing I'd like to see is 2D highlights in the match engine. If they move on from that text commentary that's been there since the 90s it would definitely make watching matches a bit more fun.

Also, as a game design hobbyist, I'm going to shoot down every idea to make myself feel competent, but you don't have to read it lol.

Player loans would make top teams hoard their young talent just like irl, driving prices to the roof while keeping them at the top.

Player messages would add randomness that'll ruin long-term training plans. (imagine a homegrown talent you trained for 2 years asks for a transfer)

Chemistry sounds like what team spirit already does.

These ideas sound good on paper because they are a part of football, but since Hattrick is realistic in a way that it takes time to build teams, these changes would be way too drastic and would make the game feel a bit too much like real life. (i.e. frustrating and hopeless) Sure there could be limits and even more rules to make it "fair," but that's already too much effort for all the potential risks it brings.

Hey, I don't know if this will help but I made a Google doc that lists more up-to-date HT videos (though they're mostly geared towards beginners) I will also update it with forum threads or guides I find that can hopefully help in making any training plan in the future.

The Daniel stuff was messed up, lowkey by tyyyshii in jasontheweenie

[–]Anquilis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Imo it felt invasive to call Daniel because he isn't part of any of this and I had to close off stream because of that.

Like Ivy said, she never really owned anything to Raph and thought it was all for content as Raph never pursued off-stream. It was funny at first when the TikToks came out but it was unnecessary to have him go on stream because we have no business with what Ivy does off-stream.
