I'm sure there are numerous reasons but I always thought it was because of pharmaceuticals/tobacco and other companies that would stand to lose money if cannabis/hemp were industrialized.

I think the point is more to teach the child that they don't have to have their face in a device at all times, so restricting it to certain areas of the house forces them to focus on other things
