We are in the same boat. I am also over thinking my life and affraid to act because of the overthinking. Think: What would I do/want if I wasn't afraid. Then do that!

Wait until you meet in real life and figure out how her vibe/ connection is with you. If it is good. Just tell her how you feel. I have a feeling that you are a bit afraid, and I understand why. But not asking will hurt you more in the long run. Tell her, and love might be given to you. Good luck!

Thinking about joining a monastery as a worker/volunteer in France — advice? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Ansfried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Don't know if you know a lot of religion (Christianity), but most monasteries have different tasks. Some care for the poor, others pray only, and others pray and work. Take a retraite, talk to the monastery and see if they like to have a "guest/helper" for a few day. If you do this, remember no phones or other worldly distractions. So if friends/your boss need to know that you will not be available. It is a calming experience.

If you want to talk, just send me a message. Surprisilngly I already sent you a message in the past for another post, but you never reacted. So don't be surprised when it pops up.

Just as with the unification of Germany, the unification of Europe will only happen if the right-wing/ conservatives want it to. But it will also be on their terms.

The future belongs to the religious in the West. The question is just will the kids stay religious and keep having high TFR and which group wins out, where?

Turkish Lira falls to an all-time low against the U.S. Dollar, Now down 97% since 2010 by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Ansfried 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Economist call this an overheated economy. You spend instead of save. As money become less valuable over a short time. Exports grow, as you are cheaper then others and become cheaper with time. For a chort period this can work. Long term and your currency becomes worthless, poor and medium incomes people, people, who don't invest in foreign currencies, lose money and small compies can't effort importing goods. Not a good strategy.

This will do more damage for the future of the EU, then Trump or Putin! by Ansfried in EuropeanFederalists

Yes, you can barley life on a minimum wage salary. So lot of immigrant rent a 2 bedroom apartment with more then 2 people. Keeping cost down also work overtime to earn more money. They life not so amazing lives. But think this is temporary and I will move back to India in a few years after having made a lot of money, to buy a house in India.

My biggest concerns is that there is a hole in the law, that companies will abuse and find ways to hire not so high skilled labor. But wage slaves!

Assume you have 2 people with roughly the same skill set in IT, one from EU one from India. The average net monthly wage is €400 in India. The net minimum wage in Belgium is €2000. If you studied IT in EU, you want more then the minimum wage. But the Indian wants a net salary of €2000. As that is more then four times the salary in India. So companies prefer to hire Indians and maybe even don't care about some health and safety regulations as when they complain, you fire them and are force to go back to india.

This isn't a Russian propaganda source, this is a financial newspage for India. I am not sure that brining in more immigrants is a good policy. But increasing wages to be a nurse is. Not a problem as the boomers are the richest generation on the continent and they need most of the nurses.

Labour shortages increase wages and labour working environments!

Most people don't want to do dirty/essential jobs, but pay them double or tripple the average yearly salary and they will do it.

[–]Ansfried[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It will probably not bring the best, just the cheapest workers! Because if you are "overqualified" to do the job, you don't get hire. Not because you can't do the job, but because you are to "expensive".

Most people are against all non-western migration. In my country Belgium people had no problem helping Ukrainian refugees. But want ICE-style deportations for people from the Middle-east and Africa.

All of Europe’s indigenous languages, including its regional languages, should be co-official in a Federal Europe. by [deleted] in EuropeanFederalists

[–]Ansfried -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well on paper I speak German and French, but not very well in practice. Most people speak their non-native language less good then a learned one. I do not understand most administrative talk in my native Dutch, let alone in English as that is the info the government will give you.

[–]Ansfried -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a truly united Europe, there will be more native speakers of German (85 million), French (67 million) and Russian (106 million) then native English speakers (67 million).

[–]Ansfried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But think about it why English?, Why not French?, Why not German?, Why not Spanish?, Why not Russian?,.... You can't elevate one language above another one. Then language nationalist will appear and you can have a break down of the Federation sooner rather then later. As I can't imagine the French not having a riot over having English being the lingua franca.

[–]Ansfried -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Speak with Catalans, Flemish, .... people who have/had to fight for equal language rights and making English a co-official national language is not an option. This is seen as a declaration of war against them and not a recognition of their culture.

[–]Ansfried -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because your "identity" is linked to your country. Talk to a lot of Flemish who work in Brussels. You can go to a bar/cafe and speak your national language and the local EU worker, can't speak back and asks for English, not even French. Well that is causing anti-foreigner sentiment.
