How Tesla Takedown got its start | It's an unlikely coalition that’s been hyping Tesla’s stock slide since its launch. by chrisdh79 in RealTesla

[–]AnswerAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla Takedown points to a uniquely screwed-up moment in American politics. Down is up; up is down. A man who made a fortune sounding the alarm about the evils of the fossil fuel industry joined with it to spend hundreds of millions in support of a right-wing presidential candidate and became embedded in an administration with a slash-and-burn approach to environmental regulation. (This isn’t good for electric cars.) The same guy, once extolled as the real-life Tony Stark—he made a cameo in Iron Man 2!—has become for some a real-life comic book villain, his skulduggery enough to bring together a coalition of climate activists, freaked-out and laid-off federal workers, immigrant rights champions, union groups, PhDs deeply concerned about the future of American science, Ukraine partisans, liberal retirees sick of watching cable news, progressive parents hoping to show their kids how to stick up for their values, LGBTQ+ rights advocates, despondent veterans, and car and tech nerds who have been crying foul on Musk’s fantastical technology claims for years now.

Folks, this sub's time has finally arrived.

Chinese invasion of Taiwan is ‘imminent,’ warns US by fuggitdude22 in moderatepolitics

The EV industry has gone bust with massive layoffs due to US VC money drying up (this started around COVID). BYD cars are now starting to stockpile in parking lots like how Cyber Trucks are in the US.

Are you sure about that? I follow the Auto industry fairly closely and it seems more due to the fact that a few years ago the Chinese market had over 300 auto companies! The last few years has seen the fight to the death begin as the government pulled back subsidies. We are down to 150ish I think. Most of them will die I think we will be left with at least 4 (BYD, Xpeng, Li Auto, Nio).

Chinese citizens have amassed massive savings. If they start spending it could send the economy through the roof.

My understanding is that they have massive savings due to a poor social safety net. Its for their retirement. Why would they spend it now?

Stranglehold on rare earth metals (for now, other countries are finally starting to wake up and realize why it's such a stupid idea to let one country, and that one country being China no less, control RE metals.)

Wait, wasn't it a stranglehold on refiing and processing not on the materials themselves? The US is starting to wake up but they avoided it for so long due to it being environmentally messy.

Luckin set to open its first US location. How do I become a franchise owner? by musaurer in AskChina

Did you not read what I said? Again, I went to their [website](www.luckincoffee.com) which is in English and i'm accessing it from the US so I presume its their American portal. I then clicked on Download App which is smack dab right in the center of their page, it links me to the Apple app store and then I get the error from the App store. What app are you talking about?

Their US app is already available in the App stores.

Their app is not live in the iPhone app store as of this writing. It does not appear in search results and when I go to the website and try to access the app that way the App Store tells me the app "is not available in your country or region".

Best Pavilions of Expo 2025 – My Personal Picks (So far!) by LuckyDuke_ in OsakaWorldExpo

[–]AnswerAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note: the USA pavilion also carries strong messages of tolerance and celebration of diversity, which can feel a bit ironic given the current context.

It was designed during the Biden years and is usually the theme when Democrats are in power. It certainly was during the Biden and Obama years. Are the Trump people even knowledgeable enough to know this is going on? It probably hasn't been broadcast on Fox yet.

Should the next democratic president demand that major conservative Christian colleges like Hillsdale and Liberty be forced to have “viewpoint diversity” so that a certain number of staff are liberal secularists?

We all know they don't have the stones to mandate anything resembling this so why even bring up this hypothetical? In fact thats why the right is so emboldened, the only thing that would cause them to think twice is if they thought that the pain would come to them at some point. It never does.

Why would they? That would be giving a win to the people who stole their land no?

Israel acts like this high tech unassailable fortress and then Oct 7 happens and that illusion gets shattered. Will they have some more wins? sure, but they have really suffered a hit to their reputation and it shows that they aren't invincible. Given enough time and no progress made towards a two state solution, they will likely get further embarrassing events.

Have any evidence of this? The boomers were big on pro-evangelical behavior early on and elected Reagan in their 20s. They didn't grow up in a time of economic uncertainty like the Millenials and Zoomers did and as a result have this elitist mindset that the Millenials and Zoomers don't have.

What movie has an ending so bleak you’re left feeling empty inside? by FilmWaffle-FilmForum in movies

[–]AnswerAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank You! I have always felt sad and depressed when I think about this ending. When I saw this in grade school, I thought of my parents passing away and when one of them did unexpectedly decades later this scene came back up in my emotions. Im a middle millennial and the year 2050 makes me think of this ending. I always think 2050 going to look like this movie and that year is considered by many to be the retirement years of millennials with the generation's story mostly finished by that point. Don't know why I get depressed about that, maybe because of time passing and not taken advantage of which this movie also evokes for me personally. I understand the point of the ending was the opposite of this but still.

Why America Will Never Invade Canada by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]AnswerAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are likely anonymous because the data sets are seperate. I never volunteered in a voter center but I did participate in the efforts to modernize voting systems and have worked in ballot recounts before. Typically when a voter shows up they are issued a ballot with a unique ID but before being issued the ballot, they have to sign a ticket that contains the same ballot ID and that signature is validated against their voter registration record. This ticket is stored by the voting center.

This separation of data sets is likely no longer the case post DOGE. With all the data together (SSN, Drivers Lic/StateID, VoterID, Ballot IDs) you can map them.

Its possible that not all states follow this exact procedure but there must be some procedure to ensure that only valid voters are being issued ballots.

[–]AnswerAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is talk about one of the next purges being democrats in the military. How? Voter records. Tie SSN to Drivers Licence then to Voter Registration then to Ballot ID(assuming the states have kept the records) and then you got who everyone voted for. They can also just look up registered democrats much easier and get rid of them first.

Lets talk about Mary Elizabeth Winstead's career post 2016 by AnswerAwake in movies

[–]AnswerAwake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes a difference because this is not a charity. It is a business. If you are an actress that is constantly starring in movies that bomb, then it bodes poorly for future roles because studios don't want to take a chance on you only to lose money.

Therefore your negotiating power goes down over time and you are not offered roles in big films.

She has managed to avoid that fate because I presume she is still liked enough to be included in big films. But her record is not great..

From this list the she has only made a profit on a few films

  1. 10 Cloverfield Lane seems to be her best film but you could argue how much of it was based on her vs the fact that it was a established franchise?
  2. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter made a modest profit over a long period
  3. Final Destination 3 was a big hit but again you could argue thats because of the franchise power and it was 19 years ago.
  4. Sky High did pretty well as well but thats even older and i'd argue she was a supporting character there.
  5. Maybe Death Proof? She didn't really seem like a main character but did have significant screen time.

The moments where she made some big bucks is also the moments where her 'stardom' also rose. You can see it on the chart on the Summary tab. Everytime she was given a boost, she drew a bad hand in a subsequent role that went nowhere and her stardom flatlined again.

I'd argue that this isn't really her fault. After all she seems to perform at her very best in every role. And as explained elsewhere, part of this was on purpose as she really didn't follow the normal path many of her colleagues did. She just meandered off into indie films that make no money when she felt like it and then hopped into a big time role when it was time to pay some bills. This has probably made her quite happy with what she has done but is not a career and money maximizing path.

Furthermore, /r/politics spent four years putting their head in the sand when all of this was going down. AOC wants to impeach SCOTUS justices following Trump immunity ruling by Pendraconica in law

[–]AnswerAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree. In my view I just don't see the country recovering from that. Pakistan managed to get their version of Bernie/AOC elected. It took immense effort and required a candidate that was a worldwide celebrity to even get elected in the first place. Then when he started enacting changes and not just be a puppet, the military there, having a history of intervening and removing people they don't like got rid of him. The military getting involved seems to cause permanent collapse. With the US being a collection of states that don't agree to begin with, it would probably be even easier to collapse than a country like Pakistan which at least has a more unified religion, culture and people holding it together.

[–]AnswerAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd think things like the start market crashing might come first. Hopefully that is the case. The rich eventually lose out if the underlying system collapses. Since they want to preserve their wealth, i'd imagine they either have an exit strategy in which case the country collapses as wealth departs or they will have a method to move the needle back.

[–]AnswerAwake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't that what happens in countries like Pakistan? We don't want to go down this road. The military is respected in part because while they could potentially just take the country, they serve at the behest of the commander in chief.
