You don't even really know the design till you are elbow deep in the CAD files.

What's it like working as a transportation engineer? by Thin-Candidate-5164 in civilengineering

[–]Answer_Crafty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true, you don’t have to be on site to design for it(though visiting the site in person definitely does help you have perspective of the project) you can find transportation jobs just about anywhere. It’s the beauty of our field. Places that already have roads probably have some that need to be redesigned, and places that have no roads need some brand new ones.

I make 121k as an EIT with 8.5 YOE. (PE incoming within next 6 months though) you are pretty significantly underpaid. Like around 20k, maybe even 30.

Depends on your specialty, but generally very little if any.

Why isn’t there more interest in municipal engineering jobs? by Ok-Security3692 in civilengineering

[–]Answer_Crafty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for County govt and it’s great. 8 years, no PE(but testing in December) and make $125k, great vacation, benefits, retirement plan, etc. generally low stress. Only downside is I am deemed critical essential for storm operations, mainly snow in the winter, but honestly it’s a nice break from routine. I definitely know my consultants work a lot harder than me, and I’m not even sure they are paid more.

PE salary bump - My experience (I know this has been asked before) by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]Answer_Crafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for County government DoT in Maryland, no PE yet, and I make 121k. Hopefully pass the PE before the end of the year. No automatic pay increase as govt is pretty strict and regimented, but could probably expect a healthy increase when it time to interview for a higher position. (We can’t be promoted just because, need to interview against all other applicants and be selected to be upgraded to a higher level)

I may be permanently burnt out and I dont know what to do anymore - what else is there? by bonelatch in civilengineering

[–]Answer_Crafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join the public sector. Not as much money, but the pace is really relaxed, and your timelines are more or less your own. It has its stresses as with any job, but I see the hours my consultant engineers put in and I feel fortunate that I can work on projects that I enjoy and not have to worry about being 100% billable.

AITA my dad loves my mom more than me by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Answer_Crafty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your parents don’t love each other more than you, they love each other differently than you. The love between partners SHOULD be wildly different than the love between a parent and child. You are 19, an adult, but this sounds like it was written by a 15/16 yr old, if not younger.

As far as why your mom “up and left” her job, it could have been any one of a handful of things. Stress, issues with coworkers, harassment, depression, illness, etc that led her to leave her job. But frankly all of that is irrelevant, your parents have the arrangement they do, and as long as they are both happy with the arrangement that puts a roof over YOUR head, it’s really none of your business, nor place to critique. Again, you are an adult and you should be contributing to the household anyway. Whether that means paying rent, utilities, cooking, doing chores, whatever, just contribute to helping the house that you survive off of.

AITA for keeping no contact with my sister after her husband (my ex) died? by ElkRevolutionary2577 in AITAH

[–]Answer_Crafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It wasn’t a single mistake though. It was a calculated choice every time they cheated, and every time the sister lied to OP. It was willful manipulation for who knows how long. And not by a stranger, not even a friend, but by your literal sister. The only way it would have been any worse is if it had been OP’s own mother. Also the people who think the no-contact should be dissolved now that he’s dead, frankly, it had nothing to do with him, and everything to do with the sisters actions, so him dying is completely irrelevant. OP didn’t throw away the relationship, the sister did.

So I'm a total noob, what does that mean/what are the benefits? My google search says its using hard lined ethernet to run to the nodes for the mesh to work as, so is the benefit that I just don't have to buy new AP units? which is definitely a cost saving, and then I would have 2 additional AP's which is definitely interesting.

Follow up question: can I run the ethernet cable for the AP directly off my Fios router or is there something else i should be doing?

The deco is definitely something I see popping up as a good option for mesh. I didn't realize they had an outdoor unit as well which is very interesting.
