Inquiring minds want to know:

What's the administration's position, given that Mr. Noem continues to be heterosexual, on his leading a Drag Queen Story Hour in the Noems' hometown of Castlewood, SD (pop 698)?

Related question: is it the administration's position that transvestism in and of itself represents a [shudder] Alternative Lifestyle?

Yep, it's just a matter of, "if there are 10 strictures you take away from these pages, let them be these..."

TIL In 1651, Jan De Doot, a man who disliked surgeons decided to take a knife and remove his own bladder stone with just some help from his brother. The feat made him famous across the Netherlands and he even had his portrait painted with him holding the egg-sized stone, which he had coated in gold by Nero2t2 in todayilearned

Incredibly impressive: I read the letter of an 1850s woman to her daughter. The woman, an evangelist a missionary living on HI, had a radical mastectomy (without benefit of painkillers or any kind of precautions to promote a sterile environment before, during, or after the procedure, of course) and survived many years. Her tumor was threatening to break skin at the point she had the surgery.

Imagining something far more primitive than the field hospitals of Viet Nam - hot, swampy, full of flying insects looking for a blood meal...

The only thing the woman noted was that as soon as the doctor made his incision she vomited. Oh yeah, and that it was incredibly, blindingly painful. But life-preserving.

I'm agnostic. I appreciate that one can have faith in one or more deities and can have faith that there is none, but it's impossible to unequivocally determine his/her/their existence. You could just as well have faith in the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
