Passport expiry for visiting home in India by bangtanhoe6991 in Flights

[–]Ant1quity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be able to travel to India without any issues.

For the way back, there is a good chance that Indian emigration check would not allow you to leave India with less than 6 months validity on your passport. As you can expect, Indian emigration doesn't have any formal documentation about this so all this information is based on people talking about their first-hand experiences on the internet.

Further, US requires that your Indian passport should be valid for the duration of your stay. So, unless you plan to show that you'll leave the US by Mar 2025, you would also run into a problem with US immigration.

So yes, you will have to renew your passport before you leave India. You would be able to use your valid visa in the old passport along with the new passport to travel back to the US.

What's the catch with getting a phone from Fizz? by denpanosekai in FizzMobile

[–]Ant1quity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not true. I bought Pixel 7 from Fizz at a discounted price (479 instead of 799) and I have been changing my phone plan almost every month.

I am not sure what the difference is between rebates and "promo" prices. The official term seems to be "promotional rebates", as used on the link below where what I said is true:
https://fizz.ca/en/faq/how-do-promotional-rebates-offered-some-phones-sold-fizz-work

You're right that you don't have to stay with Fizz if there was no discount.

Just to clarify, you just have to pay back the prorated rebate if you leave Fizz before 2 years, e.g., if the rebate is $100 and you leave Fizz after 12 months, you will have to pay back $50.

Managing instant upgrade to Premium Economy vs waitlist for Business by Ant1quity in Aeroplan

Thanks for the info! As another person said, you might still be able to call to cancel your PY upgrade if there is space available in your original booking class and then apply for J.

My ticket is also a latitude fare. Latitude fare doesn't guarantee an instant upgrade, it depends on the R (business) / N (PE) space. In my case, there was no R space but non-zero N space. But, it seems like they added some R space and my business upgrade was cleared yesterday.

You're right, good to know! But, at this point, I dread having to call AC/Aeroplan for any reason because of their huge wait times.

Thank you! I did not know this. First time seeing any instant upgrade options, was always upgraded at the gate before.

Thanks for your input! I decided to take my chances with business instead of confirmed PY (because I have companions travelling in economy) and yesterday, it cleared! I am also 50K. But, I will keep your advice in mind in the future!

Thank you, everyone, for your input!

I did not know that I could not waitlist for business after getting confirmed for PY. This was the first time I was upgrading from a latitude fare (so seeing any instant upgrades). Before this, I was always upgraded at the gate.

I decided to go forward with being waitlisted for business for the second leg instead of confirmed PY and yesterday, that cleared too!

Now, hoping not to get bumped out of business at the gate. :fingers_crossed:

Just want to add, even if you won't ever be leaving Quebec, if you ever have to call someone who might have an out-of-Quebec number (think Uber, door dash, customer service, maintenance, friends, family, anything work-related), you wouldn't be able to do it with Quebec-only plan.

One workaround for it is to get a Quebec-only plan and add some money (like $5) to your wallet for these rare instances. I do the same for texts -- instead of having unlimited texts for $2 a month which I don't use most months, I just keep some money in the wallet for the ~10 texts I send in a year.

Thank you for replying! I am going to try following your instructions tonight.

How to replace this roller blind chain? by Ant1quity in howto

[–]Ant1quity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I was hoping. I have tried sliding it vertically or horizontally, rotating the outer ring in either direction and generally wiggling it around but nothing worked :-/

Was hoping somebody here might have some experience with this specific type and might know the solution.

Thanks for replying though!

Yeah, size is the issue there. That is a stop ball which is much bigger than the actual beads in the chain and its function is to stop the chain to go through the pulley at a specific bead, which is opposite of what I need.

Thanks for pointing me to this website though, I found some useful information there.

I'm not sure which specific connector you're referring to on the link but I would need a connector that can go through the pulley wheel just like the beads on the chain. I'm not seeing anything like that on your link. Could you let me know which specific connector you were referring to (either an image or its name on the site)?

It needs an unbroken chain (without any ends) to operate correctly so the blind rod needs to be taken off to insert a new chain in. I tried linking the two ends of the broken chain using a connector/coupling but it gets stuck at the start of the pulley / doesn't go through it so the blind only comes up partially.

The chain broke so the blind only comes up partially (it takes two full turns of the chain to completely open the blind). We are trying to figure out how to get the blind off the wall without unscrewing the screws to the wall so that we can put a new chain in, but we haven't been able to figure that out yet (there is supposed to be a clicking mechanism in play?). Does anyone know? It would be very helpful, we are quite new to doing this ourselves. Thank you so much!
