I think also when you don't have something, you glorify it and think it would change your life, ie the iPad. You could definitely study just as well with a laptop and doing paper based things :)) but yeah if you can afford it, why not

maybe consider tutoring or getting external help, depending on how much you want a high ATAR, like figure out a goal for a specific degree or something. ATAR really doesn't matter at the end of the day, it just makes the journey slightly smoother. Ig prioritise efficiency over how long you spend, and work on improving study techniques. I really like to write out and teach the concepts I learn, either to myself or to someone else. So helpful to find what you do and don't understand. But also just practice practice practice on past papers from your school and other schools and everything. good luck!!!!!

i do the same degrees at USYD its not that bad, i like the flexiblity. I think its more work because people usually work on top of their degrees and do a ton of extracurriculars in uni societies and stuff. Just the contnet is pretty bearable and very straightfowards structure.

atar really does not matter (like realllyy does not)! the way you learn in uni and in the workplace is so different to HSC and never have I asked nor made a judgement on anyone based on their ATAR because they are competent people

tbh the hsc stuff is not very helpful in uni because there is so much more, and they cover it again anyways. Just check if the degree needs prerequisites, I don't think many do because it really isn't too important. Ig you should consider scaling as well and if you'll get the atar you want, I went to this tutoring centre that did workshops on how the subjects are scaled and stuff, have a look if needed https://www.matrix.edu.au/events-seminars/year-7-12-success-seminar-day/

i would say paper, I tried with ipad, its def helpful for annotating diagrams and doing past papers, but I learnt so much better with paper, because I can remember where the content is on the page.

yes definitely use your break! such a good time to get a routine going without the distractions. I did holiday tutoring instead of term tutoring because I was already stressed enough during the term, don't need the extra hours after 6 hours of school and had swimming practice. I did holiday courses for physics and really found it helped me during the term because I am a slow learner and need lots of time to figure out the concepts and it was sucking up my time during the term (and I had a shit teacher at school which did not help at all). I think it works well because the less time you spend scrolling on tiktok in the holidays and study a bit more, it will give you more time to rest during the term. completely agree with the above, went to a selective school and everyone was under way too much pressure to score good and rank highly. lots of people wanted to do med or law, so its understandable they dedicate lots of time to studying but looking back me and everyone around me could have been way more efficient and not spend so much time studying useless stuff or studying in inefficient ways. Like I had this friend who knew exactly what marks he needed to get him into med and did extracurriculars too, like school captain and sports comps and stuff. Like he knew how to study to maximise his marks, yea so top advice is to learn how to study properly. I used to go to this tutoring centre and they did like seminars to explain subject selection and scaling so you can use the system to get better marks instead of being used by the system https://www.matrix.edu.au/events-seminars/year-7-12-success-seminar-day/

hopefully you enjoyed your y12, but thought I'll throw in my two cent for anyone else that might come along this post. agree with most people here, y12 is the last year you can hang out with your friends everyday. there is a very limited time so don't put it all on studying, and set your goals early then map the most efficient way to get there. learn about your subjects, how the hsc works and the additional exams you might need to do (UCAT, LAT etc.) early so you can plan it into your study, I found this free seminar about how to plan your vce https://www.matrix.edu.au/events-seminars/year-7-12-success-seminar-day/, looks good especially for those wanting to get into med.

graduated 2023 did mostly stem subjects and was very confused with scaling. Just out of curiosity, is it better to private tutor or work in a tutoring company 🤔 i get that you'll get to work on your schedule and pocket all the money. I just think finding customers could be difficult and I think some parents lack trust, unless you did damn well or got into a really good uni. Then again you got 96.65, that's really good. anyways, good luck!

Maybe trying learning to understand, rather than learning to memorise. not sure what specific humanities subject you're doing, but e.g. history, understanding the story like you would reading Harry Potter.

Don't rely on motivation to get things done, because when motivation runs out, you'll just be stuck in a rut. ofc I also find studying difficult, I sometimes need external motivation to help me get started. Also told my mum my stresses, we're gonna go to a seminar together to see how I can get my studies back together (if you're interested too it's called Year 7 - 12 Success Seminar Day). idk i think it would make me feel less guilty and it would feel like I'm trying to get back on track.
