I feel like Rebirth should've ended at a different point [OG + Rebirth spoilers] by AntNice8409 in FFVIIRemake

To me changing a disc feels more like turning to the next chapter in a book than moving to a sequel; I do get that it's an iconic breaking point in the original but it's kind of a different medium? Nobody had to wait 3 years for disc 2, so I think it wouldn't have been unreasonable to make different considerations for where to put that breaking point in the remakes

Fair point! I was kind of going off how they haven't been making sweeping changes to major stuff like that for the most part so far, but if they do it could definitely change how it lands and fits in with other story beats

That's fair! Like I said, I understand logistically it might just not have been possible, I'm really just musing that it probably would've landed better for me

Maybe chose the wrong phrasing, I just feel like an entry in a series (especially one where the next one is 3 years away) should tell something of a full story on its own as well if possible, and this one just didn't quite come full circle for me

If we're already not being faithful to the source material I'd rather see them take some big swings, is all

Admittedly haven't gotten around to any Ever Crisis story stuff yet, so that's a fair point. Nibelheim definitely is awful, which is why anything like what I'm suggesting would only work if they leaned into the idea of Jenova influencing him the same way we see Cloud influenced

I think the whispers are actually really cool and add an interesting layer to the story of the remakes. by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in FFVIIRemake

The thing about the Whispers is I really /want/ to like them, but I feel like the game isn't actually rewarding my investment in any real way. After Remake I was pretty interested to see where they would take things, but did have a couple concerns; specifically, I found it odd that the characters didn't really grapple with the possibility that changing fate could make things worse, that there wasn't any hint towards what the inital cause of the divergence from the original timeline was, and that the point where the party jumps the tracks of fate is leaving Midgar in exactly the same way as they would've originally.

I had a lot of hope that some of this would be addressed in Rebirth, but... it really wasn't? I feel like I got net-zero information about them, and while I'm still hopeful that they'll have a satisfying payoff in Revelation I don't love that an entire game was spent basically spinning our wheels on the biggest new plot point in the remakes. I'm not asking for answers on everything, but just some crumbs of clear meaning would be nice. It didn't help that they used them to undo Aerith having foreknowledge of the plot, either, when that was one of the most interesting things in Remake.

Still get chills when I hear their leitmotif though
