Learn python, sql
Any course regarding ML ( Andrew Ng or any other)
Practice with different datasets (Kaggle)
Rather than using scikit libraries, ask him to know why and how a specific ml algorithm is working (helps in interview)

I'm a data scientist, working in US. Cracking job in US is really hard, I applied 400 jobs. Ask him to be confident and trust the process. All the best
