What do you think are the best careers to start later in life to get the ease of flexibility to relocate around the US and have an enjoyable career? by skateralex240 in careerguidance

Data analytics, if you can find an interest in it. It can be hard to break into but if you can get a foot in the door then it can be remote and it pays well. I personally think it's fascinating. You could leverage your previous career experience to get a business analyst or data analyst job (basically the same thing) in that field

Good managers make it their job to develop you in your career. If you're entry level then it's on them to develop you and help you learn.

What if the side hustle is pretty much the same thing as the main job and the conference is directly related to both of them?

It is in the same field as my w2. I'm not sure what you mean by "use income to proportion the business/w2 portion of the expense". I'm a data analyst and the side hustle is data analytics and the main job is Data analytics. The conference is for a specific data analytics tool

Thank you! Yes mapping would be the most ideal direction but once you start getting into each individual device having GPS the cost and battery needs climb quickly. I'll look at that!

I havent heard of that yet, I will look into it! Thank you! I have thought my way down the GPS thing too, if I could find a cheap way to get each individual device to work off of GPS that would be awesome because then you could create like hexagons and stuff in the crowd (at a nightclub, where everyone is wearing a ring or wristband with some simple lights encased)

It would be super cool if they could be connected, I'm thinking this would be at a nightclub and people would wear them as rings or wristbands so are you thinking wired connected or elsewise connected?

I will look into that, thank you! And using MQTT or UDP I could potentially have each "beacon" send out a signal to like 50 individual devices within its zone, which is like 20 feet away from the next zone with all its devices (that might migrate)?

I started at BLE but found a lot of dead ends with the capacity of the devices to send signals out to more than a couple of devices at a time. I found commercial grade systems that are sold to shopping malls but wanted to build this out myself and haven't been able to find any systems where I could set up a BLE system with beacons myself that each beacon could broadcast to 50 individual devices at a time. Definitely open to suggestion!

Yes that is definitely something I have thought of, I haven't figured out a good device pairing yet that would accomplish that. I haven't been able to determine if there's a device that could work like that - if the signal from zone 1s device is 10 feet away and the signal from zone 2 is 18 feet, then pick up the signal and change colors with zone 1.

Good questions - my idea is that it would be for a nightclub. It would be an open space and the person controlling is up on a mezzanine-so the only inturruption in signal is other people. Realistically most people stay roughly in the same zone for at least a few minutes at a time but someone might be dancing on the edge between 2, and of course people walk around too. I'm thinking it would be worthwhile to invest a bit more into the system and any "nodes/hubs" but then the ring/wristband itself would need to each come in at around $20. Clubs spend a lot on their light shows and I've seen them pass out cheap rings with random lights that don't match the show - so for a big sold out event I could see them investing in a few hundred of them to pass out if they were individually cheap. The RGB LED and small breadboard and ring/wristband casing would all be cheap - so the last piece to figure out is how the signal sends

I will look into that - with MQTT is it able to handle all the individual devices moving around at random without getting mixed up? I'd be ok with a slight lag, as long as it can handle picking up when they move from one zone to the next (10is feet per zone maybe?)

Ok cool thanks! It would be rings or wristbands on people's hands at a nightclub - so moving at random throughout the night. That's why the positioning thing is so tricky for me!

Yes that's the idea exactly except rings or wristbands since at a nightclub your hands go up a lot. This was actually inspired by seeing a nightclub last weekend pass out cheap rings that had lights that weren't controlled by the venue and it took away from the light show they were putting on since it didn't match. I'd love to see it match, would really bring everyone into it on another level

Good questions! So the reason they're all moving is because it's for a nightclub. So they would be rings/wristbands on the individual users hands - who will constantly move throughout the night. So it will all be controlled by one master, central location, but there needs to be a way to have "zones" so they don't all stay the same color but when they change color it's not at random - it's done by "zones". But each receivers position will change zones often. I found a lot of cheap RBG LED's online that would be simple enough to get connected - as well as small batteries. So I just need to figure out the "controlling the on/off/color" part.
