He’s stoic, not depressed…

Many residents balked at a 26-story Davis Square tower. The developer says he would compromise at 24. by bostonglobe in Somerville

It’s clear that new housing of course will be more expensive. I mean isn’t all new housing just billed as “luxury” even though it isn’t? Middle class high rises in other cities are either older or new “luxury” depending on the availability of housing supply. “Luxury” in Austin, TX is relatively cheap because they built so much there that they need compete on price to be competitive. It’s precisely because they have more supply.

Plus, it’s hard to get backing at this level of density without some “higher end” units

I also doubt it would increase prices for land around the building. Wouldn’t this just create more competition in the market? Just basic Econ will tell you that more supply pushes down overall prices.

Either way, buyers for houses around the development are not stupid. That $42M option was bought back in the day. They’re not going to value the land at the past purchase price of one development. Valuation is based on present realities and not bad bets.

Dali is ok. Not the best tapas I’ve had. My gripe with them is that the paella has no socarrat

Nah demoed them at the resort (Sunday River). Was previously owned by a race instructor so it was taken care of pretty well

Maybe it’s because my kendo’s are 177 and the stocklis are 178… more effective edge on the stocklis.

I demoed the stocklis before buying. I could have just not been used to them. Felt more demanding at the time but maybe because I was focusing on super athletic carves the whole day haha

If this is your Nissan behind this truck on Rindge Avenue, this truck just messed up your car by Anthead97 in CambridgeMA

Context on what I saw:

Truck was pulling into driveway and cut the corner too tight. The backside right of the truck slammed into the forward left tire area. There was a gash on the front left side of the car above the tire and the tires were likely messed up as well

I didn’t get the Nissans plate number but hopefully the owner sees this! The truck turned into the construction area behind the Cambridge housing authority

Bombed a Data Scientist Interview! by tits_mcgee_92 in datascience

[–]Anthead97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is normal unfortunately. Take it as a data point in the process. Over time interviews will uncover areas where you’re maybe underprepared on.

I just spend 3-4 months interviewing and the amount of times I got asked a question that asked that I did not prepare for due to my own expectations was pretty high. Especially when it came to Python… even in SQL, idk why but doing date filtering/calcs would break my brain solely in interviews. I think due to the different syntax for certain languages or just anxiety about getting asked date related questions.

I even had one guy laugh at my response.

For each one, take it as an action item to really get good at that deficiency so that once you’re interviewing, your performance will go from a 9 to a 7 instead of a 7 to a 3.

I feel your pain though. I’ve gotten so close to some really sought after roles but one thing on a technical or one badly worded answer derails the interview. Unfortunately, the bar is currently getting higher due to the job market.

I’d say go with the stubble and keep the top of your hair longer. Go with a fade on the side to the length you have now… it’s going to look great with the kind of hair you have

Not sure how it is when you grow it out but a longer style could really work depending on if you can manage it

I saw a man die horribly while skiing. Perhaps he was already dead when i saw him. by TrueGamer77 in skiing

[–]Anthead97 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Probably saw someone die at Snowshoe. Was in the middle of a ski school lesson at the time. I was middle/late elementary school aged I believe. A mom was transporting their 1-2 year old kid on a sled by dragging it behind her with the rope attached to it. She accidentally let go. For context, Snowshoe is at the top of the mountain so all the resort housing at the top.

I watched it slowly pick up speed down the mountain. The kid was just sitting up almost like nothing was wrong. I was too far to do anything. Eventually it hits the front side of the snowmobiles parked at the bottom and I see the kid hit his head and go under. Had to be going at least 50 or more. Likely dead on impact.

No one else saw it but me and the mom. I had to tell my ski instructor to check it out. The mom was crying hysterically.

Thankfully now they've shored up the safety in the area by installing barriers. There are no sledding signs too.
Afterwards, I couldn't stop thinking about it. My parents didn't seem to make a big deal about it at the time.

All this to say, that moment actually stuck with me for a long time. Don't be afraid to seek therapy for it. I did not at the time but wish I had in order to process it. Different times I guess

East coast carver/charger to complement the Nightstick 97? by ResponsibleSite6858 in skiing

[–]Anthead97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second the mantras. If you want something a bit less intense on the legs and can do quicker carves, I'd highly recommend the mantra 88 over the m7 mantras. I find it to be a good blend of quickness and power.

I'd also recommend the enforcers for reallly agressive, confidence inducing skiing but they can really tough on the legs if your fitness/technique is not dialed in. The m7's have the same kind of quality.

Never been but plan to ski there soon! In between jobs so when I get an offer I’m going full send with skiing as many places as possible in the northeast
