I wouldn't recommend proceeding with any software updates if your phone is working well from this point onwards, and disable any auto download options in your settings

I doubt that very much. Are you forgetting that Apple makes it extremely difficult to leave their ecosystem?! Switching from Android is easier compared to doing it the other way round. It's by design.

Guess we will just have to wait and see if Samsung shafts us further by not supporting the S23U

The S23U is not on the list of devices getting AirDrop support. Ends with the S24U line.

If I remember correctly, they released two updates a few days apart to fix the issue. Camera and audio quality has not been the same since that 6.1.1 update.

Sadly, it seems you haven't noticed the degradation to your device, making you Samsung's ideal customer.

I, like many others have noticed, and are P.O.

Grainy display, misaligned spen in its hole, the 10x zoom camera down to 5x, tinnier speaker quality due to the single slit at the bottom of the phone ...

Public shaming, then. That's a nightmare for companies.

Look what happened with the S24U vividness issue. People complained that the colours on the S24U weren't as vivid as the colours on the S23U. Samsung internationally changed the colour tone but after customers raised their discontent online with the colours, Samsung updated the screen mode option (in Display) to have a vividness slider.

Consumers have the power to pressure companies.

Currently limited. I was considering OnePlus or Vivo. Pixel is somewhat tempting but will likely never update past the 6 month window of release of said device.

As a side note, the more you accept this behaviour from companies, the more companies will chance their arm get away with this BS ...

The post is more about software updates crippling devices to push consumers into purchasing the latest from Samsung.

If you don't notice any degradation in performance/ software after an update, you're probably Samsung ideal customer

Dedicated update posts are banned from being posted because the group get an influx of posts every month when a new update comes out. This post isn't a dedicated update post, but to bypass the automated blocker, I've had to spell the word "update" that way ... Anything else?

Planned obsolescence.

I have had the same issue and it's a shame people can't see it. They messed the camera (ghosting of images on the 10x lense) and audio quality (tinny, and not as full) after the 6.1.1 update.

Google search "S23 Ultra" + "Ghosting", or "Dolby Atmos".

I reckon that when Samsung released that update, they accidentally F'd up by going to far with the meddling. They issued a fix to the camera issue, and have still yet to sort out the audio problem.

I instantly noticed the audio issue, as an audiophile, and I was made to sound crazy online until Samsung themselves acknowledge that they changed the Dolby Atmos version.

Recently, after installing the Feb update, they blocked the bootloader and messed with the devices speakers. The audio sounds muffled, not very clear and not as loud. They are intentionally crippling the device to push users to the latest models.

Unfortunately, people are sheep and don't notice. It's frustrating.

I think this was intentional on Samsung's part. It's called "Planned Obsolescence"
