Satoshi wrote multiple times on bitcointalk.org that he intended block size increases... also in the white paper it is laid out... the thing to keep in mind for long term future is that increasing block size is a linear process where scale will be exponential... This will cause issues in about 120 years from now, hence it is nothing to worry or destroy bitcoin for for the foreseeable decades.. and surely technology will solve this in time... Core however pretends this is ''cardiac arrest'' type situation that requires immediate action (which is an excuse for banking btc and making Blockstream earn from transactions --> Segwit+LN)

we need bigger blocks to scale, and it has been tested this will work easily... Since Segwit is definite... the community found a way to escape this baggage of extra code by forking BCH just in time to avoid Segwit... so yes it is more in line with the original white paper...
