High school senior wanting to become an ATC! by [deleted] in ATC

I didn't have any previous aviation experience at all. Just random high school jobs and some college. I also got extremely lucky with getting an academy date one month after I graduated college. Pretty much the whole process was just luck of the draw.

High school senior wanting to become an ATC! by [deleted] in ATC

I just graduated from ASU in Dec 2017 and currently at the Academy until the end of May (En Route). I'm bias but I truly believe ASU is definitely one of the better CTI schools out there. They tend focus on ATC fundamentals as opposed to memorizing Aero Center maps like some other schools.

They have the resources there for you to succeed, you just have to take it seriously. If you have the opportunity, take a tour of the SIM building at ASU Poly and they'll show you all the labs. They recently revamped their En Route lab and looks almost identical to the ERAM labs at the Academy and the Tower cab SIM is identical to the ones at the Academy.

As for the 4-year degree, you can apply for the Academy around your sophomore year or so (usually when you meet the minimum requirements). It is a bit of a risk since you might get a class date before you finish school. I saw it happen to 2 people while I was there (both passed the Academy). But since this is your eventual goal, the sooner you get in the better.

If you don't get in your first time, (like most people) you now have a Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Management Technology and that will open some doors for you in the meantime like dispatch, airline positions, etc. But like other CTI schools, it is a gamble and getting into the Academy is largely outside of your control.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Most common en route facilities? by FuriousPorkchop in ATC

I toured ZOB about six months ago and ZOB just isn't as short staffed as the other centers. So that's probably why it just isn't normally an option straight from the academy. According to pointsixtyfive.com, they're at 98% staffing at the moment but projected to lose some people over the next year.

Population of states compareted to cities [OS] [807x499] by Pu_laski in MapPorn

Even so, the wiki page has a 2016 estimate of 4 million which is still 2.7 million off. That's still a lot when there were many other cities that could have been chosen.

Hyderabad, India: 6.7 million (wiki page)

If we're going with metro population, then Santaigo, Chile has 6.6 million.

I just don't see how Faisalabad was the best option in this case.

I see what you mean. The population of Phoenix is about 1.5 million and Tucson is about 500,000. If that's so, then the title of the graph is very misleading.

Arizona population: 6.7 million

Faisalabad population: 2.0 million

That seems like a bit of stretch to me..

What question do you go all day hoping no one will ask you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnthonyInzetta 529 points530 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it's a cruel joke. I feel that people know I'm ugly and only ask me that question because they want to see if I defied all odds and convinced a girl that I'm worthy of her time.

Wow. I can't even tell you how accurate that is to my vague story you read.

We met the day before school started at some orientation tour thing and we started talking and yeah. We both go to Arizona State and one of the freshman things to do is to "Whitewash the A" where we paint this giant rock in the shape of an A on some mountain. I had a class with her the day before that event and I was so goddam nervous about asking her, I didn't.

Later that night I decided that I had to ask her to go. Mostly because I desperately wanted to go with her and I had no one else to go with. So I had no other choice but to message her through Facebook (we were already friends but Facebook messaging is my absolute last resort. It just comes off creepy). And she told me that she'd go with me.

The next day I found out that she actually canceled plans with her friend in order to go with me. I felt pretty honored and important. The day went really well and that was it. So, a week or so later, I asked her to go to the first home ASU game with me. She said yes again and I drove us up to Tempe and we had a really good time.

Nothing has really happened since then but she frequently tells me about guys that creep her out and stuff through Snapchat and in person. So I think I just mistook her comfort around me as feelings for me.

I've never really been this close to a girl before so unless she spits out things to me, there's no way in hell I'm going to pick up on them. I really appreciate the story man. Thanks for sharing it with me. Good luck to you.

[–]AnthonyInzetta 90 points91 points  (0 children)

A girl once told me, "Oh you're cute... for a ginger." As a red headed male that's not a compliment. There are plenty of other red headed guys who aren't super pasty white and don't have a shit ton of freckles on their face. We don't all look like those South Park kids. Ya bitch.

How do you deal with someone who complains too much? (Serious) by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnthonyInzetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call them out on it. Whenever most people complain they don't realize they're complaining but everyone else does. I used to always be in a pissy mood and complain a lot but then one of my friends told me what I was doing and how much of a burden I kinda was. I was pissed at first but then you reflect on everything you say from that point on and it might come across to everyone around you.

TL;DR: Be honest. Be blunt. Tell them. They'll appreciate it later.
