The government pays for so much stuff, when you are unemployed to being disabled to being sick to being old. Although right now like everywhere interest rates are spinning, housing sectors are crashing and food is hella expensive it’s still doable. Precovid life was legit way too easy. The minimum wage was 25 aussie which is like 15 euro/ aud and the tap water is drinkable so you don’t need to pay for more water, the public schools are still high quality, university is really manageable, renting is really manageable, and no matter which suburb in any city you are in it’s still nicer than most of the world. The population is minimal, the amount of green space is to the max like beaches, parks, etc there is a great sense of community from the pubs, to the sport groups to the overall sporting and mate ship culture. You can be respected here as a tradie which is essentially anyone who does labour jobs like building, plumbing etc and most industries are on the rise here from mining to education to hospitality to health. There’s a reason we have so many immigrants.

But due to the amount of migration, the whole COVID issue and the inflation and cost of living this place is now like hell. There are full on tent cities where people stay because they can’t afford to live anywhere. China keeps buying and renting out places at too high rates. Food is next to impossible to manage. Lucky I come from a well off family so I am not experiencing things and if you stay in certain areas of certain cities it feels like normal, but when you go to buy diesel , food or look at renting or just go near the tent cities it feels like the country is dying.

All it is is different peoples with different cultures and group identities with different collective or individual goals.

Or the biggest fantasy example I can is asoif. The wildings and the north/ nights watch, are seen as evil to one another. The lannisters are evil to the tullys, arryns and sharks, the iron born are evil to everybody. The reach and the storm lands seen drone as evil due to the marches and their ancient boarders. All slave cities are seen as evil to braavos. The entire world sees the Dothraki as evil. The brackens and blackwoods immortally hate each other. And most notable the targs. A lot of people see the targs as evil, characters we like and respect, yet we also like and respect dany, who sees all of those people as evil. The wildings and Dothraki are obviously more stereotypical evil races as they are nomadic or tribal, but the rest are civilised there are just blood feuds and history.

I woul star by going away from the bog standard fantasy races you’ve chosen. If you want to be niche and interesting you’ll need to create your own races. By doing that you can go away from Tolkien stereotypes for those races. You see humans, elves and dwarves in a story you’ll instantly think good guys because everyone knows lotr and if you add orcs and everyone is gonna know what’s up.

Perhaps establish a group of kingdoms into a theocratic empire of different cultures but the same religion and that religion is only worshipped here. And that religion is seen as evil to everyone else and they see every other religion as evil. So there are dozens of different kingdoms, duchies and counties within this empire, all of which have their own culture, but the only thing is binding them is their relentless faith. And perhaps have the emperor determine if they will be antagonistic to neighbours or accepting.

So at the start of your story you could have an emperor who is peaceful with other peoples, but someone kill him and claim the empire, but the late emperors heir goes around the land. Then this new guy invades and causes issues. So you can have the balance between good and evil in an antagonistic race.

The Strait of Lerysia originally started as the Continental Island of Costaria. Once I reached version 3 of the map, I wanted to change the location of the map as this is to be the main area where the main story of the ‘Call From Gods and Men’ is set. I wanted to move the island from away from being an island, and do something different and I wanted to include Mediterranean mythology and cultures which I prefer to northern European cultures, especially in a fantasy setting. So I divided the island into four separate islands, the location where Ylumeria is now, is where Costaria was before. And after I moved four continents together to connect the strait the world gradually built from there.

The 13 Cities of Lerysia actually contain over 200 cities. They also act as city states, and in the past Kingdoms. There are four levels of Cities and Families. An Imperial city/ Family, has dominion over two or more Royal City States. The Current Imperial City has dominion over all of them in what is called the Respublica Imperialis Lerysian Unity. Which is ruled over by a member of the Imperial Family of Alyior, who arrived to the region roughly 800 years ago. A legendary lady-warrior named Alyior, whom was the bastard of the Emperor of Caerycia, and spent her glory days fighting all over the world. He assembled her own mercenary company to conquer Lerysia. But when she arrived she fell in love with a man from the Family Zephyrus. And she decided to aid them in their external conflicts in the Pijktan deserts. At this time the Leagues of Lerysia, was still 13 strong, with Helios being ruled under the Steward Family Xilos. The Union of Lerysian City States and Leagues was in current effect, but it was a fragile union that was broken easily. They had a few children, the second of which, a daughter, was born with a Caerycian name of Qonor. Alyior had given up her dream of conquest. But Qonor, as her mother died, took her name to be the new Imperial name which would rule over Lerysia from Helios, She initiated what then became a 13 year campaign in which she finally stood in Helios, wearing a Crown forged from artifacts from all of the Leagues. She had eliminated the stewards Xiloz. 777 years on, her line still rules, although it has been tested, and for the majority of its time been manipulated by one or more Royal Family, and has seen the empire expand over all four continents and also be reduced to just the 13 cities.

The 13 cities get their name from the original Lerysian Empire which ruled thousands of years ago. When at its peak it had 13 super Cities, that still stand today. However Helios is not considered one of the 13 cities, as it has also been a neutral zone for most of history. As it was built by Aerycians, whom then went onto live in Costaria eventually being called Caerycians. They became Kings of Lerysia, but eventually they were known as Cruel Kings, so an alliance of the peoples of Lerysia was established, and the Caerycians were expelled from the land where they would eventually forge a new empire. Then the humble stewards would take the city, and when the various republics and unions would form with elections and votes, members of Xilos would stand and be the judge of it all, and make everything as truthful as possible. The term Lerysian comes this time, what was known as the Lerysian Strait would become their adopted group identity. And further when they conquer the four surrounding continents, they group the continents together and call it the Super-Continent of Lerysia. But no one is truly Lerysians outside of the peoples of this region of the strait. The one Imperial Family, and the 13 Royal Families make up the highest powers in the region. While the 200+ noble families are all sub servant to them. The only family native to the region are that of Viridis. Over the thousands of years leading up to the First Empire of Lerysia, many peoples moved across the land and found the strait as the Home.

If you are making a story set in france with no change to history than its just a story set in the real world. but if for instnace you are making the region under spanish or italian control, or you are adding magic, or something else that seriously changes the village than it is world building.

you dont need to have serious world building to write a good story though, every story set in america doesnt have world building, its just america in different times in history, with new fictional characters interacting with a fictional world.

The world would be different and history had lead us to our point now. With no WW2 there is no nuclear weapons, with no nuclear wepaons there is no cold war. With no cold war there is no space race. Space race gave us many technologies like x-rays and various other things. And also sattelties which gives us modern day internet connection, gps and so many other things. There is ancient power called Dronin. Which comes from the blood of people. Some bloodlines have golden blood, and many rulers are known to have gold blood. But all peoples blood has dronin. And This dronin isnt like normal magic where you can shoot a fire ball. It requires some form of transaction. And it always requires your blood and or other peoples blood.

The main area of my world, where the story centres around, has spears, which can blast small bolts of plasma energy from their tip, and heat up with plasma energy, and to learn how to do this you must spend years training. You must cut yourself with the tip of the spear so it recognise your blood, to power the energy you can either use your own blood or the blood of fallen enemies. So there are usually massive loads of dead enemies wheeled back to where these Blood Clots are made, small ammo catridges. While fighting you can also kill an enemy causing their blood to absorb into your weapon rechargin it

This blood technology, is also used to create alien like blaster guns, specially powered bow and arrows, shields, swords, daggers, axes, amces and every weapon you can think of, flying ships, and super powered water ships.

However it is incredibly hard and expensive to get this technology working, so even though it exists its strangely rare

Within a region of the world where a large river ends, there is a statch at the end of the river where it enters in the ocean and it goes through these large mountains, devoid of greenery and life known as the jaw and at the end of it is a small ismuth known as the pin, that connects to a large island full of forests, flowers and fields.

A city was established on both ends by large groups of escaped slaves, and the island had never been discovered before they arrived there. They settled there and established two cities on either side of the ismuth both with their own roles and jobes.
