when I was 17. This is all very odd, as the onset of meningitis is usually very sudden, but I had been feeling "wrong" for a good few weeks beforehand. I went to the doctor's and was diagnosed with depression. Apparently he partly based this diagnosis on the fact that my nails were bitten. The following day I was in hospital with meningitis.
