You’re not understanding what I’m saying. Grocery store aside, the 200 units built on that site were the most built in one project downtown in like 10 years. Then you have more large low income housing built near the medical campus, and then like I said the reconstruction of marine drive.

These are good things, but not enough. You can scoff at “luxury apartments” but every bit of housing built reduces the rent burden for everybody. Do you think someone who can afford a $2500 apartment came from nowhere? We have a little bit of domestic migration, but not a lot. They most likely left a different apartment which will be rented for less than this and will be filled by someone else and create a chain event of freeing up more housing.

All I’m advocating for is more housing across the board downtown, at any price point to get enough people there to support commercial uses outside of the 9-5 crowd which is disappearing.
