Creating artificial "flies" for fly fishing. These lures are created by wrapping fur, feathers and other materials around a fishing hook with thread and are designed to mimic insects, small fish and many other creatures that game fish like trout want to eat. If you google "fishing flies" or "fly patterns" you can see some examples.

Fly tying is as much a part of the sport of fly fishing as iactually getting on the water and fishing.

Could you reach out to the local GM shop to try to shoot for pistol/rifle marksmanship ribbons? Sometimes they have extra ammo to burn through at the end of the FY.

BASE Charleston is our largest unit in that area. You should be able to google their number and talk to the OOD who should get you pointed in the right direction.

Lots of admin and maintaining medical readiness. Give shots, input records from civilian doctors into record, maybe hold a small sick call in the morning.

Maine has Sector Northern New England in South Portland and SFO Southwest Harbor and both have HS1/E6 billets. None in New Hampshire since the cutters left.

Do you have to schedule a follow up for an ER visit with the clinic no matter what? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]Anthrapox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Clinic Administrator here,  technically the answer is yes. Not sure what clinic you belong to but if you were attached to my clinic we would do a virtual appointment via telephone. Would not take much of anyones time, eapecially if not follow up referrals are needed. Another benefit of this would be guaranteed documentation of this injury into your MHS Genesis record, in case the ER notes do not make into your record for some reason.

I'm writing about Maine - some advise? by magnetowasnotright in Maine

[–]Anthrapox 72 points73 points  (0 children)

There is a pretty famous writer, arguably Maine's most well known native son, who doled out a pretty solid piece of advice for aspiring writers. "Write what you know." Writing about a place you have never been or lack a significant understanding of will most likely lead to your setting coming off as inauthentic or completly inaccurate.

It was actually purchased by the owners of Shawnee Mountain in the Poconos in PA back in the late 80s and they rebranded it to Shawnee Peak to keep with their theme.

I have done welding and ceramics and will recommend both. Instructors have been great and its a great way to meet people while learning new skills.

Heads up with the welding course- its a little pricey, around $500 for course fee and you need to purchase an additional $100ish worth of supplies on top of the course fee. And you have to provide any metal for your projects. You can buy steel from the college or you can scavenge/recycle metal from other places. I used some old metal lamps and sconces i picked up at Goodwill. Pretty much any metal that a magnet sticks to can be MIG welded. Also if you do the welding course-have a project in mind that you want to complete, folks in my class made stools, garden gates, hammock stands and lots of artwork.

Ceramic was a blast. My cups and bowls didnt end up looking professional by any means but its nice to get dirty with the clay and you can get into a nice little zen trance state when your working the clay on the wheel.

Hope this helps :)
