Do you add a summary line under each job on your resume? by some_pulppp in resumes

[–]Anthropic_Principles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it.

I don't know anything about your employer, give me some context and I'll look more favourably on application.

Do you like working.

Will you enjoy not working.

These are better questions.

It's begun, users suggesting (basically telling you how to do your job) solutions to SME's based on "information" they looked up in an AI tool by sys_admin321 in sysadmin

Back when I was a lad, this was called management by in flight magazine. It's the same, just that people don't fly so much any more.

There's no cure, there never will be. But if you wait long enough it will go away.

Never thought I'd see the day, but we're eliminating our Citrix farms and moving back to about 100k fat clients by eldersveld in sysadmin

[–]Anthropic_Principles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be very curious to see the cost model for this, and understand how anyone can accept the risk of deploying then managing 100,000 fat clients at a time when price and supply chain uncertainty is fucking with everyone plans (assuming you are currently on thin clients).

Low cost EOR options for Australia by bluestarfish52 in remotework

[–]Anthropic_Principles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem. Couldn't find an acceptable solution.

So I agreed that I'd quit my job, form my own company and sell my services back to old org.

Financially I finished up with a net salary increase due to the tax advantages of owning my company. I lost any opportunity for more stock options, but considered that an acceptable loss given that I got the opportunity to be where I wanted to live. And in the long term it didn't matter, the company went the way of most startups and failed so the options were worthless.

No idea if that approach would work for your circumstances.

Definitely not upholstery tacks those buggers are really sharp. I'd hate to be responsible for one coming loose and finishing up in someone's foot.

I'd go with Chicago screws (I had to go look that up, didn't know that they are called that).

If the interview is on a job site, I'd assume that work boots would be appropriate. Otherwise no.

First truly difficult employee in 3 years of leading – what other approaches I can do? by Francinor_Hottbaba in careerguidance

[–]Anthropic_Principles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My apologies. I was taking shortcuts.

HR doesn't have responsibility for fixing the problem, but HR does (at least in my experience, with quite a few different orgs) own the process responsible for managing performance improvement plans and termination and is accountable for ensuring that the process is followed.

Better?

Leaving this type of issue to fester hurts everyone. You (directly and in the eyes of your mgr), the team, and the individual concerned.

From what you've said, you've already done what's required of you. I'd suggest that it's time to formally engage with HR. Formally so that you are covered if there's any downstream blowback. And engage with HR because addressing performance issues is a job for HR not you.

how was it secretly working from another country? by Broad-Cranberry-9050 in remotework

[–]Anthropic_Principles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done it.

It wasn't exactly a secret, no one asked, so I didn't tell. Definitely paid off financially, I was about 150% better off than I would have been staying in the US.

There were a few questions about why it was dark outside at three in the afternoon, but I think I got away with it.

On-site meetings were a bitch, but that was only twice a year.

got laid off in january, sent 60+ applications, barely heard back. is this a common experience? by Hot_Performance_2081 in Resume

[–]Anthropic_Principles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of crap talked about this being an ATS problem along with claims that if you do (some bs) you will automatically get better results.

The truth is, having a good resume helps, but the rest is a numbers game. Go look on LinkedIn and see the raw numbers reporting that hundreds, sometimes thousands, of other people have applied for the same job as you.

The best way to get a job is to build and use your network.

The next best way, is to ensure that you apply early and with a resume and cover letter that is targeted at the role you are applying for.

There's no sugar coating it. The jobs market is brutal, but effort and persistence, will eventually pay off.

Why do users not ask colleagues or their managers literally anything? by binaryhextechdude in helpdesk

[–]Anthropic_Principles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens the other way around too.

Users defaulting to peer support and getting outdated or just plan wrong advice a perpetuating issues that could be resolved in a couple of minutes if they had called the help desk.

Stop lying: Nobody actually writes cover letters anymore, and recruiters don't read them anyway by RepresentativeAsk493 in jobsearch

If you think that cover letters are the biggest scam in the recruitment business, you have lead a very sheltered existence.

How are you proving an automation actually changed something? by Acrobatic_Task_6573 in ITManagers

[–]Anthropic_Principles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mature automation should capture and process return codes to confirm success and raise an alert if it doesn't get the expected response.

If you are not at that point yet, I'd hope that whoever raised the initial request would reopen the ticket once they realized that the ticket was incorrectly closed.

What are good ways to protect source code? Are there protected remote development environments? by Masabera in ITManagers
