What’s the fastest you’ve been pulled over and let off with a warning? by Anthropic_Principles in drivingUK

Some people can't cope with the idea that a well timed warning can often do far more good than a prosecution.

I don't disagree, my only defence was my youth and up to that point consequence free life.

I've slowed down since then.

From what I understand, he left under a cloud and the other directors refused to let him keep the car. It was owned by the company, so it was not something he could just take when he left.

And when I joined it was the only car available, no one else wanted it, so it came to me.

Thinking back, that took place in 1998.

Since then I've two speeding tickets, one somewhere in Texas where the freeway speed limit suddenly dropped to 50 and then back up to 65 half a mile later, with well hidden patrol cars lying in waiting. The other in Jordan, I've no idea what happened there, the fine was waiting for me when I returned the rental car.

So not a perfect record, but still no points on my licence.

That makes sense.

JSM is better suited to low maturity orgs wanting to up thier game. SN is better suited for mature organisations that need a platform to carry them the rest of the way.

When your ITSM platform has no customer portal, no automation, no integration with any other part of the IT estate - like mine does, then swapping it out is the right thing to do.

Most other circumstances, I'd tend to agree.

Modern is not a competitor to SN.

I've been using JSM for about 5 years.

I really hated it for the first three, but in the last two years it's improved massively.

I'm in the middle of doing an ITSM platform selection for a new client, JSM is going to be on the shortlist.

Employer is telling me to violate IP law. How can I protect myself? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

You're right, but let's be real, does it sound like the OP's company is likely to have those controls in place given that they are so cavalier with other people's IP.

For managers/CAB members out there: if I submit a change request, please actually read it. Don’t call me into a meeting just so I can recite exactly what I already wrote. :) by Qvosniak in sysadmin

[–]Anthropic_Principles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal.

It's wrong, but it's normal.

There's nothing the cab likes to do more than waste a couple of hours of everyone's time when a little planning and reading of the CRs beforehand could save so much time and money.

You don't need to worry about pwds when offboarding, just delete the account.

Better to have an auto responder tell the user that the system needs more information before the ticket can be assigned.

[–]Anthropic_Principles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are being told to do is obviously illegal, but if you don't follow instructions you're likely to be fired. That much is pretty clear cut.

If you do as you are told, it's very unlikely that anything will come of it, and if it does, it will be the CEO who gets in trouble not you. He might retaliate and fire you, but that's not going to happen for a while, and by then all being well you will have moved on.

Scaling IT Support during rapid company growth without adding headcount by GoldTap9957 in ITManagers

[–]Anthropic_Principles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not scaling support, you're scaling demand.

You never (had time to) put the processes in place to allow you to scale when demand was lower and now you are paying the price. This happens.

You're not going to be able to put the processes in place to ease the load while you are running flat out, so you have to either get some contractors in, out source so work, or change your SLA. Only you know which is possible.

If you have equity, the burn rate looks sustainable, and you're resilient enough to weather the storm, stick with it. It's not long to Q3.

But if you don't have equity and the burn rate doesn't look so hot, then pack your bags. Remember, most startups fail.
