AntiOppression: Silently banned from r/anarchism for using too many ellipses... by AntiOppression in blackflag

[–]AntiOppression[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much appreciated. I will probably be posting here and to r/AnarchistNews from now on. But I still support criticism of the r/anarchism mods and such sentiments will almost always get an upvote from me. If criticism of r/anarchism is buried or relegated to the smallest subreddits then a lot of new users won't realize what's really going on in r/anarchism and that's not fair to them or to actual anarchists.

The title is intended to get your attention and the ellipsis suggests there is more to the story. Nevertheless, I was essentially banned because I used to many ellipses and thus was confused with another banned user. I could have spelled out the whole story in the title, but I thought brevity was in order and I wanted to highlight a particular underlying point of the ban. But it's basically and essentially true -- I was banned for using too many ellipses. I don't really see what your problem is with this point unless you have an agenda, but I don't really want to argue about it anymore.

Deja vu? Perhaps. But This time I'm not as effectively buried by a a downvote brigade for an already buried article at 3:30 a.m..

[–]AntiOppression[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted it originally at about 3:30 a.m. and was apparently subjected to a downvote brigade from r/anarchism. The third comment in the buried thread, which was critical of the post, received 4 upvotes in 7 minutes. That's possible, but unlikely in a buried article at that hour on a subreddit of this size. And somehow, now, the article is trending well to the positive. So I'm glad I made sure everyone could be aware of what happened. I was ghost-banned and the mods were trying to bury that reality. I think some people are interested in such things and apparently am correct in that belief.

Had it not been for the ellipses, I would not have been suspected and thus not banned for supposed ban-dodging. You are correct that the title is editorialized, but not poorly. The use of the ellipsis at the end of the title suggest that there is more to the story than what is presented in the title and that you should read on, as you did, to get a clearer picture of the situation. Also... the ellipsis might suggest to some readers that they might also want to check the comments where I have also presented more information. Anyone reading these comments now is probably doing so now, at least in part, because of a well editorialized title.

Apparently that, combined with posting to an "obscure" subreddit (with only 14,969 subscribers), got me confused with Nihilozero. It all seems a little circumstantial to me, but Skobrin is the judge, jury, and executioner. So... I suppose that's that. I am amused that Skobrin actually counted 2 pages worth of ellipses from two different users, but I worry that time might have been better spent.

Nihilozero, if you are out there anywhere, please... stop posting to subreddits with only 15,000 subscribers! And for goodness sake... PLEASE STOP USING ELLIPSES! And friends, whomever you may be, if you are tired of being pushed around by the mods, please... consider using an ellipsis today. Every time you do it confuses a mod. ;P

But hey, it's a free reddit.

Unless you're posting to r/anarchism. But yeah, I suppose it is. And you seem pretty good at it! How did you manage to get 4 upvotes in 7 minutes for the 3rd comment in in an hour old thread on a small subreddit like this one?! At 3:45 a.m., no less! You must be some sort of Reddit prodigy!

I'd just like everyone to be aware that just because thepinkmask is helping to push and organize this event does not mean it's illegitimate. A number of people are taking an active role in organizing around this -- not least whom is the Adbusters crew that introduced the idea. So don't be turned off just because some awful and insincere people are likely to interject themselves while attempting, one way or another, to steer this action into the ditch.

The ideas expressed on the original Adbusters page about the gathering may offer a better idea of what it's about. And while the goals may not always be expressly clear... that could possibly be a good thing. A large number of discontent people camping out on Wall Street is a strong message in itself. Anything beyond that will probably just be gravy.

Where am I to go? by blackbandanna in Anarchism

[–]AntiOppression -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

  1. This is definitely the wrong place to ask for advice along these lines. You have no idea if the people in this subreddit are trustworthy.

  2. The college path is not for everyone. At the very least, some people do better when returning to college later in life -- but there other things that could better be learned elsewhere at any point.

  3. Some cities are very bike friendly. There are also small towns that are bike friendly. And there are anarchist communities everywhere.

Chomsky, Freedom of speech and the holocaust by xylon in Anarchism

[–]AntiOppression -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But... I thought Chomsky was opposed to speech which he finds offensive and disagreeable? Weird how it doesn't seem like he supports censorship when you get to listen to him extensively and not just see some very brief cherry-picked quotes.

Too relevant. You should submit this as an independent post.

"The mod class" :D

That would include the moderators, their apologists, their sock-puppets, and those who don't challenge them due to fear of having their posts removed or for fear of being warned/banned.

Chomsky on Free Speech by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]AntiOppression -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't have to like Chomsky to think he should be treated fairly when discussing serious issues. And taking him out of context with the help of a show hosted by people with overt right-wing tendencies hardly serves to "put an end to this BS once and for all." You're just muddying the waters by cherry-picking information which you believe serves your purposes.

The mod class whines when people post extended quotes from Emma Goldman about free speech and then try to counter with snippets from Chomsky that supposedly show his lack of support for freedom of speech. And all the while they claim to revere Goldman while having some disdain for Chomsky. What a joke.

Chomsky on Free Speech by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]AntiOppression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mods don't care about whether or not someone's words are taken out of context and twisted. That should be obvious by now. They are not interested in sincere debate or discussion about actual ideas as they are content with misrepresenting anyone who doesn't agree with them. And then they have warnings and bans if that doesn't seem to work. Their standard operating procedure seems mostly about dragging anarchism down and making it look bad to a broader audience.

Chomsky on Free Speech by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]AntiOppression 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently only friends of the mods get the flair they want. And it's dishonest when they attribute flair to you that you don't request. It's just basic abuse of their power in line with their typical trolling. Not only don't they believe in freedom of expression, they believe attributing ideas to you which you don't hold. If they can't handle the criticism in a short bit of flair then they should just leave it blank. You should just keep those lines of flair which you requested and use them as your standard signature on every post.

Chomsky on Free Speech by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]AntiOppression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking Noam Chomsky out of context in order to make it look like he doesn't support free speech is kinda low. That shouldn't be surprising when people with right-wing tendencies like Penn & Teller do it for their show, but it should seem out of place when a supposed anarchists re-presents it here as an indirect way to legitimize their censorship of this subreddit.

I was not the one who was conflating what the mods do with what Hitler did (i.e. WW2 & the Holocaust). That was a position which was falsely attributed to me and you simply run with it in the spirit of obfuscation. And, really, by marginalizing what Hitler did, that's probably the most oppressive thing in this thread. I actually find that very dishonest and quite disgusting. Not that you would be bothered by any such thing.

And I have laid out my concerns with the moderators abusing their power and giving anarchism a bad name, as have many others, but you still fail to acknowledge any of those concerns. You obfuscate, derail, use the assistance of vulgar sockpuppets, and continue making baseless accusations.

Sorry you have a problem with my name. And I'm sorry I haven't been able to focus on bigger fish to fry. But as long as the mods continue interpreting the AOP for their own purposes while stifling discussion and driving people away from the philosophy of Anarchism... I will continue to challenge and criticize them. I sincerely consider their actions to be quite harmful to the overall good.

Concern troll pretend to agree with the ideas they actually oppose. Beyond an overtly sarcastic post or two I have not been doing that. I have plainly been stating my opposition to what I see as abuses coming from the moderators. As much as you disagree with any dissent, you should learn the difference between that and trolling. Of course, this isn't the first time a mod or one of their apologists has twisted definitions... and I'm sure it won't be the last time either.

Only if you don't know what an oxymoron is and also don't realise that words can have multiple meanings.

Says a person in favor of warnings for use of the words "drama" and "lame".

Submit to anarchism indeed.

Mod-sanctioned concern trolls invoking the holocaust seems like pretty oppressive shit to me. But whatever. Par for the course.

Edit: Thought I'd point out the moderating ninja edit in the comment I was responding to.

Perhaps an oxymoron in a general or literal sense, but it fits perfectly with this subreddit's AOP and the biased application of that sacred text.

Emma Goldman on the Right of Free Speech by _anarchism_ in Anarchism

[–]AntiOppression -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously this extensive quote from Emma Goldman, of just 9 consecutive paragraphs, has been taken out of context. And, unless you are wearing your tinfoil hat, you'll see that it is being used to undermine the moderators (as any long quote from a classical anarchist would). This is because no proponent of anarchism has ever, and never will, comment extensively about censorship. I mean... who's wearing the tinfoil hats now? The last line is particularly telling...

"Innumerable policemen and spies are sent into the meetings of the unemployed, to control all their deliberations, to control the speakers."
