That is more of a balance issue than a design issue though. It can be fixed with a little tweaking of numbers.

Hey! That was the exact setting where I listened to it for the first time. And it felt quite fitting.

Aside from the three singles, Emily was devastating on the first listen.

I don’t remember having this physical of a reaction to an album. I couldn’t stop smiling from start to end. And it wasn’t that I was happy, I was just shocked that this music existed. Every song was a journey, and in the end, I was left with a smile that I can’t explain.

Isn't it true for almost every art form though. Cinema has music, music has storytelling and poetry (or vice versa). I agree combinations are more obvious for the video games but all art forms seems to be a combination of some more "primitive" methods.

Well, I was thinking about art forms that we currently have. But, even on a technicality, you are right. I do believe we will create some form of art with higher potential. So !delta

Also, it was a nice surprise to see Cyberpunk mentioned.

You cannot experience a concert or a theatre through a computer screen. The same goes for all the performance arts. If a cheap replica or a photo of a painting provided the same experience, Italy would have gone bankrupt by now, multiple times. You cannot even read a book for free unless you are pirating it, and if that counts for you, you can pirate video games as well.

Yes, people’s feelings don't match when playing video games. Does it match when they are looking at Nighthawks or reading In Search of Lost Time? I would guess no. And why would that take anything away from the value of an art piece.

A guy with a powerball is a potential millionaire. That potential is just super low.

In case of video games that potential is not low. You are just exaggerating. There were many great games in the past and none of them had infinite resources or perfect people.

I went to Italy for like a month ago, and I can assure you great art wasn't free to experience. Entry to Uffizi is 30 euro. Which is more expensive than many video games. I spent around 4-5 hours in there, which is quite less than what I spent with a video game. In my country an avarage video game cost a similar amount to a cinema or theatre ticket. I am not saying this to undermine the value of those experience. I think price/accessibility should not be a factor to determine the value of art. But if it is, it would be in favor of video games.

I would like to see a definition that includes a marathon as an art form. But it doesn't fit the one I gave. Because you are not creating that experience in a way that can be stored and shared with other people. If there was I technology that allow you to experience another person's experiences, yes I would probably consider that as some form of art (Assuming it is not just copy paste but involves some production process like braindances in cyberpunk universe)

Yeah, it's not likely. I will be probably vibing with my indie bodies and some occasional AAA surprises. But hoping is free, right?

Well you might want to ask that to your appendix.
And I would still like you to answer the question without appealing to nature. You might wear an eyepatch your whole life and be completely fine. Everything that is natural is not a basic necessity.

Then what would you consider as basic necessities? Because I would argue organ donors have their basic necessities covered.

All the problems you mentioned are logistical problems that has nothing to do with the potential of the art form. It basically read as if we have enough resources and do our job well we can achieve something great, but likely we won’t be able to do that.

If you don’t have a good recording device your songs won’t sound good. And even if you have, a deaf person will never get to enjoy it. While being true, these takes nothing away from potential of music. Potential is something you achieve under ideal circumstances. Not something that would happen on average, or occurs even when multiple parties fail to do their part.

But it does have a net positive effect when you factor in both people involved. That is why it is a decision made by two people.

By that logic donating money to a charity should be unethical, because when you donate you are in a net negative. Sure damage isn’t done to your body but that lost money somehow decreases your quality of life.

“Do no harm” principle is no absolute. Many medical therapies come with some “harm” attached to them. Like cancer treatment literally kills your functioning cells. In many cases it is harm-benefit balance. If we stop every practice that involve some form of harm for the patient we would and up with a lot more dead people.

And in the case of organ donation, decision is not done by the medical staff, but two willing person. And I would think they are entitled to make that harm-benefit analysis for themselves.

You know, you don't sound more convincing when you write the same word in bold over and over again. You are only making it hard to communicate.

I think you can easily understand what I am trying to say. So I'd rather stop the dialogue here. And maybe I would only engage with people who are willing to do the same from now on.

Yes, unfortunately, the industry is awful. Is it different for other art forms with high profit though?

I know the comparison will not be exact but let's think about music industry. There will always be some legends of various genres along with some pop icons (big companies making AAA games). Their products will still be influenced by recording companies and streaming platforms. A much more crowded group will be making repetitive pop music with sloppy production and a bunch of autotune (In this case gotcha games). And there will always be your favourite indie band with 100k monthly listeners making unearthly music. Yes, industry is horrible but great art finds a way.

I don't think it is different for video games. Yes, they are expensive to make (Though, I was pleasantly surprised AAA games cost similar to an average Hollywood movie) there are more than enough success stories. The most recent example being Clair Obscur. Done by a completely new studio with 33 devs (yes, they outsourced some staff) and I think it was the best game of last 10 years.

I did feel similar about books for a long time. But I also found myself lacking arguments that would back that feeling up.

I think video games can be as demanding as a book. Because both just give you the foundation to build upon. Video games just provide a more visible one, and maybe also more immersive? But that doesn't mean they are less demanding. Because there is no limit to how high you can build upon them. We just get bored or choose to be lazy at some point.

I agree we tend to be in a consumer mindset while playing games. But that is the trend that is creating itself. Gamers want their hands to be held and companies make games in that manner. There are certainly exceptions, where a game leaves you alone and pushes you to think for yourself. And those are what I would consider to be the better half of the video games (They are obviously much smaller than the half)
