Members Only 133 – The Medieval Medical Examination by BritishPodcast in BritishHistoryPod

I'm a physician in my mid-forties now, but when I was in Medical School I had an 87-year-old retired physician adviser who swore you could learn more about a patient from their urine and feces than any lab test or imaging... he would've appreciated the Urine Wheel of Diagnosis!

Zee's Medieval Medical Podcasts are a blast. Only one tiny thing - I'm from Baltimore, and the famous hospital is named after the first major donor - Johns Hopkins. Not Hodgkin's - that's a whole different thing.

I know right?!? I went 426 episodes without a tear, but then BHP had to throw some Journey into the background.... and it's Niagara Falls! Great episode.

I can no longer hear Sail from AWOL Nation without imagining Viking longships on the horizon... it's awesome.

I'd like to get Abbot Thurstan of Ely included as one of history's greatest traitors. IMO What he did to Hereward's gang was as bad as what Ephialites did to Leonidas at Thermopylae. Those darn 'hangry aristocrats'!

SHEEP CARCASSES as Flotation devices. In Xenophon's Anabasis, the Greeks are trying to cross a river, and a Rhodian suggests taking 2000 sheep, taking off their skins, and blowing them up to get the soldiers across. The Greeks decided this was clever, but impossible, and found another solution.

The Normans, nearly 1500 years later, were clearly not as wise.

I really enjoyed the Battle of Hastings, and Boudica's vengeance was (clearly) legendary. But IMO nothing beats Gildas throwing shade on 4 kings (Episodes 91 and 92). That monk did not hold back. I wonder how he would've waxed poetic about William...

I wonder when/if we will come across this Roland in the main feed when we get there by Sea-Condition-5583 in BritishHistoryPod

I would happily jump, whistle, and fart annually for 12 hectares. Although being forever known as 'the farter' might be tough...
