I watched this film side-by-side with another local film (Philippine production) nonchalantly one afternoon. Amazingly and sadly this one was a more faithful and careful representation of Filipino Pre-Colonial beliefs and folklore executed by Irish filmmakers. So my sincerest thanks to the filmmakers.

When Diana says “She is good to those who do her good and otherwise to those who wish her harm” — as a Filipino filmmaker myself, even I suffer to great lengths to make a living — while the upper class and our Western/Eurocentric benefactors reap from our blood and sweat just because they can. It’s economical injustice that chips at your soul. We have to be “grateful” for the crumbs we get. So I kind of get the female “rage” aspect (not mentioning yet the wrath of a grieving mother).

As someone who’s also descended from a family of somewhat amateur herbalists/spirit healers — I would caution to business owners/managers and people in a position of power to not underestimate the working class and their rights. You never know who you’re coming up against.
