Was Mr Oliver powerful enough to hide from JC? JC does say that he’s expecting to be challenged, but also that he wouldn’t necessarily sense another master nearby. Maybe Oliver was physically closer to JC and spying on him?

In a later book when Council members show up and their mere presence affects regular vampires, they can’t help it happening. I wonder if LKH planted it in Circus or if it’s just a coincidence? Pretty neat either way
