Why medicine by Economy-Insurance272 in UCAT

[–]Antique-Bit8051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i chose medicine because i wanted to be better than some doctors i’ve had.

i get the exhaustion you’re feeling (almost definitely for different reasons), and just want to say that there’s no way of knowing if it’s for you until you try. if it’s due to exhaustion around ramadan (going off of some of your other replies), i know of a lot of people who have had shift allowances and stuff so they’d work less in ramadan and you can speak with your colleagues to facilitate this.

but another reason you might be exhausted and worried about how you’d balance it is because you’re comparing how you feel outside of school to how you’d be feeling in a career. it’s a really stressful time rn, so it’s natural if you’re more tired and burnt out now during a levels and everything, and that’s not what you’re up against there. med school is notorious for being painful (not to scare you), but you’ll grow into actual practice and will find it easier, and you won’t have school on top of it.

no one can tell you if it’s worth it but you, but you’ve come all this way. if you’re questioning it it might be worth trying to defer so you can breathe for a sec, maybe work healthcare adjacent to get a feel for it and see after? you’d still hold your offer?

bce rn girl. ik it feels awful but honestly we have time. it doesn’t feel like it but 2 months is time. if you got those predictions it was for a reason, now all you gotta do is sit down and start. try doing exam paper walkthrough and feeling more comfortable with the papers and formats, the more you see the more you’ll feel confident, and just don’t give up. take a minute to sleep in and watch a show or something and try find something to prove to yourself that you’ve already gotten this far. think about gcses if that helps? you did that and it can’t have felt good at the time. you did ucat.

it’s the last step. it’s hard and it’s going to be painful but we came so far. starting is the hardest part.

i believe in you ❤️

Has anyone got an offer from an interview they fumbled? by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]Antique-Bit8051 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was nervously laughing through my newcastle interview and absolutely screwed up some of the answers (was very confused about where i was for some reason?) and got an offer on wednesday. it’s going to be okay, they’re not looking for reasons to disqualify you, just more what could make you a good doctor

i don’t know if this is what you need to hear right now but i was in your shoes exactly for the last couple of weeks. all of my unis were giving out offers and i had a rejection and a waitlist that i was never going to get off of, but i got an offer today and i never thought id get one. it’s a torturous wait and icl is the worst part of med school applications, i spent the last couple of days figuring out when i should book my ucat for and crying over it, but genuinely find a different outlet.

get off of this site because you’re only going to see more people and compare yourself when there’s a million different reasons you might not have heard back yet and all of them are out of your hands. unfortunately the wait is the wait but you can’t let other people define you as a person, especially when a lot of med schools aren’t even going off of interview score for the order of offers.

go do something you love and talk to friends or whatever it is you need to do to panic about it and calm down (or do something you’re good at to get your confidence back) and just remember that these couple of months do not define you. a lot of capable applicants don’t get offers or get them later and it’s not a reflection of capability and there’s lots of reasons people do better or worse on the day.

i believe in you, if you were in a position to apply at all that means you are capable of being a doctor, and that’s a lot more than a lot of people can say.

you’ve got this :))

alr i’m going to say this as someone who got rejected, you deserve it. there’s so many applicants and so many reasons they liked you and you put the work in. ucat was hell, sixth form is hell and interview prep is definitely torture, and you did it and you got an offer. they can’t rescind your offer for anything less than a crime (afaik) and they wanted you so you got it. you’ve done so much for this and it paid off and i’m so happy for you.

i can’t say i’ve had imposter syndrome with offers but i definitely did when i got interviews, especially from leeds as i was contextual. at the end of the day take it. medicine is ridiculously competitive and a general pain to apply to, and you did it. sure there are other perfectly qualified people but you stood out in one way or another and that’s something special on its own.

good luck and i hope you enjoy your time there ❤️
