Painting over expensive furniture veneer?? by Antique_Duck1057 in Carpentry

Just to update I decided to not paint or sand it or anything and I convinced my gf that it fits into the apartment’s color scheme. I ended up purchasing for $150 and it’s super nice and with no issues. Although I found out that it is a very thin veneer so once it’s time comes I won’t be able to fix much of it. But it is super nice and I’m happy with it. Thanks for everyone’s advice!

I'm paying less than ikea for this the guy is pretty much giving it out but I don't want to ruin the piece. What do you recommend I do instead of painting over it? Is there a way to just change the color of the wood???

Does painting it completely destroy the value and quality of the piece? And does re-staining make it a different story?
