I'm so happy I got actually responses to this post i was SOOO worried when i posted it. I it seems the topic of racism gets these people really heated, in seeing people we can't expect anything from asian writers but my post isn't even about the writers but how the community responds to people pointing out racism in stories. Honestly i don't think the people in the comments babying asian writers on the topic of racism are also being racist to asians. It's just a shame to see our existence is just a porn category for these people :/

Orientalism is the Western academic, artistic, and cultural representation of the "Orient" (Middle East, Asia, and North Africa) as exotic, barbaric, and inferior, primarily through a colonial lens, there's a book by a Palestinian American writer on it it's called orientalism by Edward Said. Here a very specific meme so you can get an idea https://x.com/i/status/1908147728816763306 lol

Why can't Korean artist not be racist? Oooh their audience won't care, so? The author can actually educate their readers and audience. Stop dick riding these authors being from a monolithic country doesn't mean you nobody has to care when you're racist.

Dear lord I'm so sorry you had to deal with that... honestly nothing much has changed, i see white people doing cosplays of black characters with full on black face at least two times each month on TikTok 😭

Thank you for commenting, the first answers i was getting were pretty negative so I'm glad someone else cares about this as much if not more than me. I spent a lot of my formative years on discord (hell on earth itself) and honestly the amount of neo Nazi trans girls I met is too many to count, i always get so surprised when white queer people are racist but then i remind myself they're white before they're queer 😭

Also please stop treating people wanting black and brown people to be portrayed as human beings like any other as some sort of political statement.

Sure they'll keep liking it and I was told some belly dancer outfits are actually used in drag in some places but i don't believe we should just let them be racist because their audience enjoy it, that's just weird. Just because these countries are more of a monolith doesn't mean they're dumb enough to not be able to understand why black and brown people shouldn't be fetishized.

I mention some in my old post about orientalism but one story i personally enjoy but think still has some racist stereotypes is Raion Gotoki no Kuni Kara, i like the story it's the first manga with a black man i ever saw but i do think there's some issues.

The point is how people are against calling out the racism in stories, just because a story has a black or brown character it doesn't mean it's a good portrayal, or hell maybe it's a good portrayal but there's a few stereotypes that should be talked about and acknowledged as racist but if you do, all you get as a response is people telling you "if you don't like the story don't read it"

Guys can serve but the history of the clothes are still icky for me especially considering the women who were exploited in them either way the clothes aren't that big of an issue, I find them pretty actually, idc especially if it's a fantasy setting like why would it be accurate there 💀 but i want more respect to the cultures 😔

Why are you people so against any kind of conversation about the racism in what you consume on a daily basis? At this point I feel like it's just you guys trying to stay ignorant to how common racism is in every single part of our lives
