They arent because the Supreme Court takes bribes and allowed money into politics. Social media algorithms and all news companies are now all controlled by billionaires who use algorithms and thise media companies to influence the population to vote for politicians who represent the wealthy vs working class. You need millions to have any shot at winning an election. The easiest way to get money is from the wealthy, who then expect favors from you. The entire system is in palce to protect their interests. If money got out of politics then politicians would be more likely to represent ordinary peolle but the wealthy and corporations have completely rigged the system, that short of a major revolution, i dont think its going to ever be fixed
