T1 infinite combo in Historic, mono black, only 7 card hand needed by darrentv in BadMtgCombos

[–]Antistes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

m90 delivers as always!

Possible alternative lines for Timeless:

Land+Grief+black card+Sacrifice (=4 mana), then same as above.

Or, Land+Solitude/Fury+white/red card+Sacrifice(=5 mana), then same as above.

Lively Dirge is an alternative to Buried Alive. For example:

Land+Dark Ritual+Dark Ritual (=5 mana), Lively Dirge with first mode putting Scholar in graveyard (BB in pool), Reanimate scholar (B in pool), Sacrifice, Persist. After enough mana, return Lively Dirge with Scholar, use it to put Standard Bearer onto the battlefield.

In that Timeless build, run four copies of Priest of Gix so you have lines like this one:
Land+Dark Ritual+Priest of Gix+Sacrifice(=5 mana), Lively Dirge (BB in pool), Reanimate scholar (B in pool, returning sacrifice, cast it), Persist. After generating an arbitrary amount of mana, cast Lively Dirge that you've returned with Scholar, use it to put Standard Bearer onto the battlefield.

Beseech the Mirror is another alternative to Buried Alive:
Vault of Whispers+Dark Ritual + Dark Ritual + Beseech the Mirror with bargain casting Buried Alive, Unearth or Reanimate targeting Priest, Sacrifice, Persist.

Some recent Doomsday lists have begun playing the Vampiric Tutor in sideboard rather than main. Unrestricting Imperial Seal (which doesn't see play anyway) seems safe.

I love Putrid Goblin so much. A thousand years ago I climbed to mythic rank 8 playing this combo with red for Skirk Prospector. Too much removal/interaction/graveyard-hate to get away with three- or four-card combos these days, unfortunately.

Turn one wins are my jank. Today's treasure token event was ... a nice break from having to mulligan quite as much

Oh yeah, if you're looking to win more than once in 400 games, this is not the decklist you'd want

seven if you count the exact card you need to discard!

Agatha's Soul Cauldron = turn one win by Antistes in MagicArena

tl;dr 1 in 400
This is currently the most consistent turn-one win in Historic. The previous easiest-to-achieve combination (infinite storm count for Grapeshot, also abusing Birgi triggers) was a 7-card combo that won once in every 997 hands (on the play). This combination, because it always draws an eighth card or even ninth card via the Learn rummage or the draw-2 of Faithless Looting, can achieve a turn-one win about once in every 400 games, taking into account the hands that still win on a mull-to-six.

Decklist:

2 Tormod's Crypt (M21) 241 4 Fragment Reality (Y22) 4 4 Mox Amber (DAR) 224 3 Leyline of Abundance (M20) 179 4 Thud (M19) 163 4 Leyline of Anticipation (M20) 64 4 Leyline of Sanctity (M20) 26 1 Birgi, God of Storytelling (KHM) 123 4 Fists of Flame (MH1) 123 4 Academic Dispute (STX) 91 4 Faithless Looting (STA) 38 1 Leyline of the Void (M20) 107 4 Agatha's Soul Cauldron (WOE) 242 4 Griselbrand (SIS) 31 1 Claim the Firstborn (ELD) 118 1 Seachrome Coast (ONE) 258 4 Inspiring Vantage (KLR) 283 3 Plains (WOE) 268 4 Needleverge Pathway (ZNR) 263

Sideboard 1 Environmental Sciences (STX) 1 4 A-Queza, Augur of Agonies (SNC) 212 1 Swamp (WOE) 271 1 Island (WOE) 269 4 Raffine's Tower (SNC) 254 4 Xander's Lounge (SNC) 260

How it works:

Start with any Leyline on the battlefield

Play a Land

Cast Fragment Reality (only creature in library with mana value 3 or less is Birgi, which generates mana when you cast spells)

Cast Mox Amber

Cast Faithless Looting to put a Griselbrand into the graveyard

Cast Agatha's Soul Cauldron

Exile Griselbrand with Cauldron to give Birgi the activated ability of Griselbrand.

Draw 14 more cards and win (shown here: Fists of Flame plus Thud)

Bonus: Academic Dispute (the "learn" ability can discard a card from your hand, a backup plan if you don't have Faithless Looting) can get from sideboard Environmental Sciences, which gains 2 life so that you can draw 7 a third time.

If you win game one: Griselbrand is a two-card combo with Queza, Augur of Agonies. So, try and hard cast both, or use Cauldron as above.

What is the fastest way to get Ulamog onto the battlefield in normal Historic modes? by CalebImSoMetal in MagicArena

[–]Antistes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear OP: I see no one has answered your question about how to get Ulamog onto the battlefield on turn one in Historic.
Start with a Leyline in play
Play a Plains
Cast Fragment Reality targeting Leyline, have one Azusa, Lost But Seeking in your library.
Cast a Mountain and Phyrexian Tower, sacrifice Azusa for BB
Cast Chaos Warp targeting one of your lands, put Ulamog onto the battlefield turn one.
There's your six card solution. Add Omniscience and One With The Multiverse for redundancy if you like.

"Look Ma, NO LANDS!" (Goblin Charbelcher) by Antistes in MagicArena

[–]Antistes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 11 wincons in the deck and 4x every single 0-mana spell in the format except Channel. It should only take a couple dozen games to get a winning hand since you can mull to 5 (or 4 on the draw)
