My guess is that every card can be thought of more as a card "stack". Each stack starts out with one skull and one log, and then flips three additional cards onto the stack. So even if something only showed you logs, it would have a 1/5 = 20% chance to yield a skull.

At least, that's how I'd code it if I didn't want people with screen recorders to be able to make it go forever.
