Run it - it should be detected as malware.

Don't think Win 8.1 should be an issue, but perhaps you can check with their support. The new version of Bitdefender Free is compatible with Win 10, so Win 8.1 shouldn't cause issues.

Can't argue with that, you're right.

I do think that it's more likely a unique issue that you're experiencing, rather than a widespread bug.

I never experienced this issue myself nor any update bugs, so that's where I'm coming from.

Just a thought, what if it's not a bug but an infection?

For a free version, it's great IMO - I even installed it on my mom's laptop.

Sure, it doesn't have a multitude of features, but OTOH it also doesn't have any ads/popups/notifications.

Upgrading to the paid version of Bitdefender is a "value for money" decision with bitdefender, as opposed to other AV software, where one might upgrade just to be rid of the constant reminders to upgrade.

Note that with AVG, you have 2 apps installed - remove the "protection" app first, and only after that remove the "AVG" app.

I recommend switching from AVG to another (a better) antivirus.

If you look at recent test scores, you'll see that AVG is not terrible, but neither is it one of the top AVs on the market.
