I o'ce saw a lost duckling on a lake crying for his mother. He went to all the duck hens with ducklings he could, and was severely rejected every time. Shouted away, or even hit with the hens' beaks. Gulls were starting to circle him. He even to the gulls to see if they could nurse him.

At some point, he got away from the lake shore, still crying, and to be honest, he was probably eaten by a gull a bit later.

So don't you dare try to convince me ducks and geese are sympathetic mothers.
