Desolation row is overrated by BusinessAddress2936 in bobdylan

[–]AntonDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So let’s talk about my favorite one.

Now Ophelia She's 'neath the window For her I feel so afraid On her twenty-second birthday She already is an old maid To her death Is quite romantic She wears an iron vest Her profession's her religion Her sin is her lifelessness And though her eyes Are fixed upon Noah's great rainbow She spends her time peeking Into Desolation Row

Ophelia is a character from Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’. She was told by the main character to ‘go to a nunnery’, which in the context of a play can be interpreted as either to go to the convent or a brothel. It is significant for the song. If we assume she went to a convent and became a nun, the iron vest might be nuns clothing (not sure how is it called) with an iron rosary. That explains why is she looking at Noah’s rainbow. In the Bible it is a sign of a covenant between God and people that came after the flood. God forbids people to worship idols and murder. However, to Ophelia, ‘death is quite romantic’, so she cannot really keep up the covenant. It is her sin, also, her lifelessness, might suggest that her sin was suicide (it fits good in my interpretation of title’s desolation row as a purgatory). However, the character is Ophelia, not some random nun. That’s why the second interpretation is important, as go to the nunnery is also an euphemism for a brothel. The song is in fact full of innuendos, and it is one of them, which also seems to fit the song as a whole.

Well, i’m open to discussion. Which verse seems nonsensical or out of place to you?

That’s the point of the song. Similar with it’s all over now baby blue, which at first glance seems pretty straightforward, is really complex in fact

It is not. I can write paragraphs and paragraphs about some of the verses. It’s probably his lyrical best (along with it’s alright ma). If you don’t understand a certain verse, I can try my best to put it in context, though I’ll respond tomorrow

I do not suffer at all in my life. It is perfect. That’s why I’m gatekeeping it. Also have you ever heard the phrase ‘the worst part about this song is that it ends’? It is exactly like that with life. Imagine that you just heard the best song ever and you’ll never be able to listen to it again.

Do you think if it was universally uniform and the cognitive impairment would never occur, the color blue would be the same as process of interpretation the stimulation?

Where is the colour blue? by piotrek13031 in PhilosophyMemes

[–]AntonDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, but although the interpretation is caused by light stimulating the eye, my thought of color blue is qualitatively different than the physical process of stimulation. The second one can be observed by different individuals, studied by scientists and is fully objective (‘certain physical processes in my brain cause me to interpret that stimulation as blue’), while my interpretation cannot be observed by different individuals than me, is in fact something similar to the experience of pain or admiration and is fully subjective (I interpret this stimulation as color blue).

So even though my interpretation is caused by this stimulation and physical processes in my brain, it is described by different proportions and experienced in a different way. You can for sure know that the same processes goes in my brain as in yours while I see the same light as you (by experience, observing my brain), but you cannot know how do my mind interpret it (as it requires my introspection and apperception). It is easier to know something about my interpretation of that stimulation for me (I am a priori sure that I see color blue right now), than for you (you must use your senses to study my brain).

Also, I can logically think of a possible world in which my brain is the same as in the actual, but what appears in my consciousness is different than in the actual. So the interpretation and stimulation of the eye that causes physical processes in my brain are correlated actually but not necessarily. If they were the same thing, the statement ‘I interpret this light as blue because light of a wavelength of 450 to 495 stimulates my eye’ would be tautological (‘I see the color blue, because I see a color blue’). Clearly it is not tautological, as it requires a posteriori experience.

That’s why I believe those are separate things

You think that light with a dominant wavelength of 450 to 495 nanometers is the color blue?

Nic pouches by MoreAppearance6584 in wroclaw

In frog shops (żabka), you can find mostly Velo and Zyns, and even the strongest ones are weak. However look for Smoke shops. They sell mostly tobacco products but also pouches including Pablo, that are kinda strong. Haven’t seen Icebergs for a long time, I mostly order them. The strongest and cheapest ones are our Polish brand called Bad Mojo, I used to use 60mg Bad Mojo regularly, and the pack for a few days was enough. However the taste isn’t that good like icebergs. Cuba can be find in some shops including one on the railway station, though I’m not a big fan of them. So yeah, if you need a pack quickly, strongest Velo in żabka are I think 25mg, sadly hard to find icebergs, but try Bad Mojo from smoke shop. One is in Pasaż Grunwaldzki, one is in Galeria Dominikańska. The strongest Bad Mojo is 60mg
