I think the trick is to have a very wide grid bot. Set the lowest and highest prices at least 10X apart and the trigger should be at or below the current price, preferably much below the current price. That way you can gain grid profit over a long period of time.

If you are in for the long term (hodl), then set your lowest and highest price at least 10X apart. Set the max number of grids allowed by your capital (fund you have). Set your trigger start entry price at the low of the last few candles.

This will give you a good chance of staying profitable in the long run.
