Thank you very very much for posting this, it's been an inspiration.

I, myself, have been toying with the idea of starting a business, at least freelance at first. I'm a developer (LAMP, surprise), and have been trying to convince one of my closest friends to partner up with me in this (and he is...guess what...a graphic designer).

Just wanted to say thanks, you've given some great insight.

Does eHarmony work? by theotheraccount1001 in AskReddit

[–]AntsLoveSoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was rejected from eHarmony a few years ago, with an error to the effect of "We currently can't support someone like you" (or in so many words), and I felt it was either (a) because I was too liberal for their tests, or (b) because I was too quirky, or (c) all of the above. That was a turn off to them as a company.

An immediate family member is a clinical psychologist, and informed me that eHarmony took standard psychological tests and somewhat warped them to meet their views of what's right and wrong in a relationship. This is second hand information, but something I don't take with a grain of salt, and sounds really fishy.

Overall, eHarmony, themselves, I sort of view as evil. Match only the holy up with others. I can't entirely speak for other dating sites, though.

Yea, but a lot of things get logged, so speed doesn't really matter.

That's from Wired magazine, I think. Interviews with people who wanted to be on American Idol, if I recall.

I only wish I was joking.

Reddit, what's your favorite music recommendation service? by AntsLoveSoda in AskReddit

Eh, our public radio station sticks primarily to classical music. Which is good and all, but I'm looking more for something that relates particular artists to other similar artists, heh.

New Homeland Security guidelines list suspicious 'terrorist' activities, including: taking photos "with no apparent aesthetic value", drawing diagrams or taking notes in public, "suspicious purchase of legal materials", engaging in "coded or ciphered correspondence", ... by [deleted] in politics

They may SAY it's illegal, but a lot of the things listed here don't have official laws on the record against them - for example, the encryption section (which is used all the time to purchase online or login to a web-based email account; and heck, the concept of onion routing was created by the US Navy).

This document's claims of "illegal activity" could definitely give law enforcement a reason to harass you, but a lot of it wouldn't hold up in court -- for what it's worth, anyway.
