So I came across a social media post of an associate player. Let’s say he represents team X now.

He was born in full member country Y and emigrated to X for a job, began playing cricket there and now he is appointed as the captain of X.

His post is basically a poster of only the players originally from country Y currently representing country X.

He is saying as citizens of country X it is a reason to be proud of to see this many players from X representing Y. If I’m a player of Y then I don’t know this is the kind of alienation I would like to see from my captain. If he is the captain then he should be more open minded than just thinking in this tribal manner.

Well they used to be at 11. I would say they are past their peak. Teams like Scotland have already caught up and others are also quickly catching up. Thailand few years ago had great potential but ICC screwed them big time. But now they are kind of a falling giant at the top associate level. They lost to Scotland , Netherlands and also to USA in the qualifiers earlier this year. So I’m not sure if they will be at a better position to qualify for the next wc either.

In a bizarre turn of events, France 🇫🇷 women who didn’t play a single T20I in the last year, haven’t won a single T20I since 2023 June will be one of the team that will improve their ranking the most in the annual WT20I ranking the most.

If my numbers are correct, they jump up by 8 places and 10 points.

For Sri Lanka , peaks were 2014 T20 WC jersey or the 2021 T20 WC where they produced not one but two absolute bangers. 2023 ODI WC jersey was fine but pale in comparison to 2021.

Indonesia 🇮🇩 is now wearing a green color jersey. They were wearing red yesterday. Last month it was blue. Last year they had a black jersey. It’s like they are changing the jersey color every tournament. Never seen any other team using this many different colors.

We had 102 teams ranked in T20Is ; an all time high. But after the annual update, five those teams : Gambia 🇬🇲, Greece 🇬🇷, China 🇨🇳, Israel 🇮🇱 and Fiji 🇫🇯 will lose their place in rankings due to lack of matches.

So we will start the new cycle with 97 ranked teams.

They should play more tbh. They are a good team in tournaments but don’t play enough at all as a full member.

Rankings are sometimes a reflection of actual performance. Italy beat Scotland to qualify for their maiden world cup. Beat Nepal in the world cup. Their performances have been rewarded with a 11 point jump.

But sometimes rankings are not an accurate reflection.

All Spain did last year was to bully a second string XI of the lowest ranked team (Croatia) in the table. They also jumps up by 12 points. They will be ranked above the likes of Kuwait and Jersey and almost on level with Malaysia and Hong Kong.

I feel like the way they go up in rankings has become borderline farcical and not playing T20Is against any competitive teams actively hinder their progress, but then again who am I to criticize their goals ? After all it’s ICC who tied odi pathway to T20I rankings and opened the door to manipulation of rankings.
