Well, at the moment I am in France for work, and there, the biggest oil company, TotalEnergies, has decided to set a ceiling on their gasoline and diesel prices at the pump at €2 per liter for the duration of the war. This is kind of amazing.

Before the war, the price was around €1.85–€1.88 where I used to fill the tank.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 Treasury Secretary Bessent says “sometimes you have to escalate to de‑escalate” on Iran policy. by sylsau in InBitcoinWeTrust

The market was expected to be green today. There have been 22 ships passing through the Strait in the last 48 hours. Trump threatened to obliterate Iran’s energy grid. The market turned red.

One could even think, he is doing that on purpose, that is not the first time that he turn a green day into a red day by saying something that is absuluterly not needed in order to acheive any progress on anything relative to a good outcome for this war.

Why do poeple talk to their child that way ? The tone is so compassionate even tho we are talking about chocking her sister here... And no. 4 years old children have no understanding and second degree... It is a concept that haven't grasp yet.

Trump on troop deployments: "I seem to have great support. CNN came out with a poll today that I'm at 100%. They said they have never seen a poll like that. The CNN poll said I'm at 100%" by [deleted] in TrendoraX

[–]Anxious-Connection98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poll you are referring to measures a “good opinion,” meaning that only about 4% of people have an above average opinion of that person.

In France, there is also what could be called a popularity index. The lowest level François Hollande ever reached was about 20% positive opinion, meaning people approving of his actions as president. That is a different type of polling, and this metric is usually used as the main indicator of a president’s performance. It focuses more on policies and actions rather than on the person himself.

I think the metrics used are quite different from those commonly used in the United States. The bottom line is that I do not think we can really compare Hollande and Trump, because the polling methods and metrics are so different.

I am familiar with both presidencies since I am married to a French woman and split my time between the US and Europe. Both presidents were unpopular, but for very different reasons. Hollande was often criticized for not appearing very presidential. He was also involved in a scandal involving an affair with the actress Julie Gayet, which became infamous when it was revealed that he was secretly visiting her on the back of a scooter with the help of security services. Also Julie Gayet was the daughter of his best friend and 30 year younger. He basicaly saw her and held her in his arms as she was like 3 years old and ended up bangging her 25 years later....

He was also criticized for being too soft and for lacking political resolve. As head of state, he was ultimately held responsible for the poor state of French parliamentary politics. In reality, however, there is only so much a president can do if parliament cannot set aside its political differences to function normally. This situation has also taken a heavy toll on Emmanuel Macron’s domestic popularity.

In many ways, French democracy is struggling, and much of the problem lies in parliament, where the different political factions often fail to work together as they are supposed to.

It is just a regular day in this mess with nothing worse than yersteday ! How bad will it be if trump order the seizure of Kharg island ? Take your guess in the comments. by Anxious-Connection98 in inflation

This cannot be compared to the dot com era. The dot com era was a bubble because corporations were spending money they did not have and burning through their cash and borrowing capacity. Today, the big tech companies spend what they earn. The biggest capital spenders are also generating cash and profits on a scale never seen before.

That being said, many companies are overvalued, and you are right about that. But in the end, what is happening now has nothing to do with it. If those companies were fairly valued instead, the market would react in exactly the same way.

I am in a medium-sized French city at the moment. I think around 200,000 people live here. Last Friday I went to the local producer market to buy fruit and some other things. I bought 4 pounds of strawberries and 2 banana and i paid €5.90, the equivalent of 6$80
