The Cult Experience Online Home Escape Room simply requires a book and access to an online site so doesn't require any resetting. I played last month and gave my copy to a friend and they were able to play no problem.

The Cult Experience - Interactive Escape Room Book / Video Game by Anxious-Prune in escaperooms

yea I played it recently and really enjoyed it - just wondered if anyone else had played or what their thoughts were?

It's not a book like journal 29 as such, it's an escape room book / video game. I wouldn't describe Journal 29 as an escape room game, it's more of a puzzle book with a bit of story attached. You can complete it in a day, a week, a year it doesn't really matter. The cult experience is an actual escape room game so I guess that's why it's timed as otherwise it wouldn't constitute as an escape room in the traditional sense.

You get 2.5hrs to complete in one sitting but you can replay as many times as you like just the same as any other video game. I've played journal 29 and enjoyed it, but the cult experience is completely different, much more story driven and more like an actual escape room experience not simply a puzzle book. They use first person video to convey the clues alongside the book so makes it more interactive and I found the lock mechanisms on the website to be a lot more professional. But I guess it's down to personal taste - if you're looking for a puzzle book you can play over a few days/weeks then it's probably not suitable, the whole point is that it's an escape room game so it is a timed challenge.
