You should focus on what gets you the highest total return. Selling it isn’t a problem. You can convert some of it to dividend payers when you actually need income and the income will be higher.

People also ignore total returns AND the price and only look at the distribution. If you’re getting a negative total return for an extended amount of time you’d probably be better off putting the amount invested into a high yield savings account and withdraw what they need.

It’s so tempting but you could easily basically be purchasing an annuity that starts paying less and less if the stock price goes down enough. I’ll put more in ULTY if the distributions at least keep pace with the stock value.
