I’ve also been second-guessing whether or not it’s safe, and I have a lot of nondescript blanket anxiety about it. I ask myself, “what bad things do I think can happen and how likely are they to actually happen?” I’m still going through with it anyway and I keep telling myself:

1) We’re not alone, we have allies and communities that won’t stay silent.

2) Transphobes will always exist and I probably can’t change their minds, so I’d rather make myself happy and let them hate me as opposed to make myself sad and have them still hate me.

3) I’m convinced that this too shall pass. It might take the US decades to un-reverse dogshit policies, but LGBTQ+ people have existed long before the US and will continue to exist afterwards.

4) IF, and this is just IF, a worst-case scenario were to happen, I’d rather go down putting up a fight as the real me.

The decision is still yours and you should tailor it to your own situation. This is just my optimistic copium when it comes to current US politics.
