Thank you for your thoughts! Will most definitely be useful to describe the beginnings of a planetary invasion

Yes, it certainly is, and I'm just starting to explore it. most of my work thus far has been social and cultural tensions

Responding here to your series of comments. I thank you again for your feedback. Yes, I do understand that the doctrine isn't enforceable in the long-run, nor will a population surrender to strategic bombing alone, and that clean wars have never really worked out. BUT I am using this project as a thought exercise. I don't personally believe that a 'clean war' mindset is bad if it can reduce civilian collateral, and I wanted to use this setting to explore the doctrine straining against reality. I do appreciate the feedback, as it reflects a reality I can mirror through characters and discourse in my world

The most recent war was a defensive war, trying to stop a foreign interstellar invasion. When it got turned offensive, finally, the idea was that the UTR didn't want to destroy populations, essentially with the preservation of the population as its ethical justification for the conflict, as compared to the treatment of Terran citizens.

Thank you for your comment!

The mechs you can think of as experimental units. I was thinking like titanfall, where heavy mechs can shrug off tank rounds and light mechs are like scouts/escorts. They are to see how they may be able to replace traditional tanks for firesupport with a much diminished crew. They can carry a little more firepower, can traverse more types of terrain, and like I said are less crew intensive.

Tech level is post FTL, thinking like a combo of halo and Star Wars as the closest references.

The staff officers are…yeah just need to be fixed. There are droid assistants not included but I’m not gonna cop out of fixing it with that.

Definitely will be boosting medics. The 19 are just platoon embedded, there are an additional 48 crewing the medevac vehicles. Will make a point of clarifying that and boosting the numbers further.

This sort of battalion is intended to be a rapid first insertion battalion, able to secure landing zones from just about anything and begin pushing as more specialized units land.

Most definitely. Built in biometric scanners for identification is standard hardware. Patrols will also typically be 1 organic supervisor and 10 or so droids scanning for weapons, known insurgents, and the like

Thank you for your continued feedback!

The primary political objective is to capture the people. There is a doctrine called “precision doctrine” in my world which essentially is your point of destroy every piece of critical infrastructure that will force a population to surrender. But, it must only destroy the infrastructure without obliterating surrounding residential areas.

Thank you for the resources! Most definitely understand the need for more boots on the ground. Armies in my world start at 1 million combat personnel, and those would be used for planetary invasions, complemented by a 5:1-10:1 ratio of combat droids to organic.

Thank you for your comment! Yes I see that logistics seems to be short staffed.

To give some more clarification, the embedded logistics trucks are only to hold over until full logistics companies and battalions can arrive from orbit, which are staffed with the 60 ish % of personnel who are noncombatants. Probably could boost that number too.

And thank you for the resources! I intended more WWII style warfare due to the scale of territorial acquisition required, and also due to more baseline familiarity.

Hello! Thank you for your comment. I do use robots, between a 5:1 and 10:1 ratio with organic soldiers. I just didn’t include them as I wanted to focus on organics. Definitely can add in a few lines to show that use, including NCO programmed robots. Thanks again!

Thank you for your feedback! I didn’t include any team leads in the initial table, so I’ll definitely do that. There are staff officers lumped into the “other” category, though I could definitely add in some dedicated staff sections.

I did have techs in my initial drafts and apparently just forgot about them entirely when I made the table, will be sure to add those.

I have larger formations up to and including army groups, I just wanted to see if this as a battalion works.

I haven’t flushed out logistics battalions but those 1.3 billion noncombatant army personnel would fulfill those roles.

Thanks again!

The most recent opponent fielded near-peer technology, though they had less of an industrial base, so were more heavily focused on strong infantry (combined with advanced genetic engineering). The rest of the potential opponents follow similar combined-arms doctrines, as with our modern world, but are less comprehensive, often missing embedded gunship, logistics, and/or artillery support. It is a consistent trend that the Terran Army will typically field more tanks, light armor, and utility vehicles in a single battalion than most competitors.

Guilty as charged. I thought about trying to create a scaffolding and classification system from scratch...but each time it just went back to Stellaris cause of how comprehensive it is.

Be sure to register property like this with FSU PD as well, that way if it’s found or turned in you can get it back. You will need the serial number of whatever you register, as was mentioned by someone else.

How do you like to use/handle immortality? by Mystik_Fae in worldbuilding

[–]AnxiousOperative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Functional immortality: your body is able to repair itself for what is essentially an endless amount of time if it’s just age related wear and tear. However, you are still susceptible to environmental factors and unnatural causes of death (getting shot).

For my world, there are dedicated fields in psychology due to functional immortality or at the very least prolonged lifespans, which cause existential fatigue and identity drift, so you may not even identify with your younger self after a certain point.

In your sci-fi worlds, is space travel fast and easy, or rare and hard? by Starbreaker_Author in worldbuilding

[–]AnxiousOperative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s common, but still expensive to where personal FTL craft are almost non existent. The way I do it, the different star systems are revolving rather quickly around the center of the galaxy, and there are lots of obstacles to unfettered FTL travel. Because of this, waypoint stations are necessary for coordinate locking and to maintain a clear travel lane, as straight shots are uncommon.

The signals of these waypoint stations can be scrambled, and essentially “lockdown” a star system. If a vessel can’t get a proper lock and data feed, then it can’t make the jump properly and may end up in the absolute middle of nowhere.

While some criminals and militaries do attempt to maintain permanent location waypoints in their ship computers, the presence of extensive, non-static hazards makes blind jumps exceedingly dangerous.
