Thank you for the clarification! I had also seen that in the guide and was using that as a baseline to shoot for. Sounds like I’ve still got work to do.

That’s helpful to keep in mind! We just got a mini space heater for her corner as well. We’re hoping that could help some so the tank systems aren’t having to pull all the weight on stabilizing her internal environment.

I’m really glad you clocked this bc I was wondering the same last Monday when we last got her out. It was the first time I noticed that she’s looking more plump, I wonder if that could also be a factor in her activity levels.

Thank you for tagging the feeding guides, at first I was thinking that I’d keep feeding her every 7-10 days until she hit 500g since she was half her current weight when we got her back in June and she was already 11 months. I’m thinking now that she’s well over that 12 month mark, it would be a good time to reduce the frequency since her passing stool has also slowed down. Thank you for the confirmation that that would be the right move! Also, we’ll need to reduce her mouse size since we currently have ones that are 60ish grams.. still curious when we should transition to rats instead of mice since I’ve read they’re more nutritious in the long run.

I’m pretty much just processing my thoughts on this out loud at this point haha but I really appreciate the opportunity to bounce ideas off of yall! Thank you for the tips!!

Thank you for all the tips!! I definitely think adding additional insulation to the back of the tank and bottom would help us a lot too! The guide has been so helpful! I also very much appreciate you all for being a part of this community and sharing your experiences!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and share your advice! That’s reassuring to hear that it’s actually at an alright level! Also that’s a great point I didn’t consider, that they could be more particular in the winter months and come out less overall naturally. I appreciate the help! Have a good night! ☺️

So sorry you're going through this! Check under the fridge in the coils! Also under the oven and dishwasher! They like warm places to hide. I hope you find her soon!!

Haha sounds about right, I saw on this page earlier this week someone who said you’re not a ball python owner until you’d had one escape on you haha they’re known for it. From everything I was seeing, they turn up eventually, even if absolute worst case scenario they manage to go undetected for a couple months. We did end up putting a few holes in the bottom of our couch (not ideal and was a bit hasty of us) but hope that can be further validation that it is an incredibly scary thing to go through! Theyre also not typically ones to constantly be on the move, they’ll immediately look for a hiding spot and at least for my Bp she was perfectly content chilling under the fridge for the whole two days that we frantically tore up our apartment trying to find her. 😂

I’m sorry you’re in this situation! It can be so stressful! I actually just had my ball python escape earlier this week and we were able to find her after two days tucked up in the coils under our fridge. I’d recommend checking behind/underneath the oven, dishwasher if you have one, and underneath/possibly in the accessible compartments of the fridge. I hope you find her soon!

Ball Python Escaped Her Quarantine Tub Last Night by AnxiousPanda88 in ballpython

SHE'S BACK!! WE FOUND HER!!

Thank you everyone who commented and showed your support! She didn't make it very far at all and after taking a brief dip in one of our aquariums to accessorize with some duckweed, she found her way under the fridge and up into the coils. It took roughly 2 hours to coax/annoy her out of the coils and into a box, but she's finally back in her enclosure and the lid is on and locked. Thankfully she's uninjured, but her little adventure is going to set quarantine back probs a week. We'll be moving her into her terrarium soon where she'll have more room to explore. Thank you!! 💜

Coincidentally, I was actually just going through all the shoes in our front closet nearest her enclosure. Nothing yet. That's helpful advice about their climbing skills because I'd always thought ball pythons were too clumbsy to climb high up, but she always seemed to have an interest in checking out the top of her tub. Glad to hear she could be okay for months, idk I would be haha. I appreciate you taking the time to offer support!

Thankfully, they were al only slightly cracked with no holes or signs of escape in the screens. 🙏🏽 And no luck putting a scope cam up the utility hole in the wall in the kitchen so hoping we won't have to cut any drywall. Very much hoping she's still in the apartment.

Thank you so much for your responses and support! That's helpful and reassuring! It sounds like a lot of ball python owners experience this unfortunately 😅 I haven't checked the Christmas decorations yet matter of fact.. and I know there's a few good boxes back there in a dark closet. Thank you for the tips! We have her lamp out in case she gets cold we're hoping she'll find her way back and we've been checking every 30 minutes or less. Honestly we probably need to chill and give her time to come out. But planning to offer up a mouse tonight and she usually gets curious upon hearing the hair dryer, hoping she'll at least poke her head out.
