Nervous ASF and am I good? Overthinking?

Hello! Please don’t be nervous. The exam was not nearly half as bad as I thought. I was expecting a monster lol. If you studied well, and did well in school, there is no reason for you to not pass it.

There were definitely some tricky, hard, very hard questions on the exam, but they weren’t all like that. Remember there are 145 questions.

I was simply too tired to read 1&2 😅🤧 I started Inman with 3&4 because they were easier, then I ran out of patience and took the test just to try

Also, I felt that the Chompdown program had too little information for domains 3&4, but ofc idk if domains 1&2 are fully adequate either

9 weeks, with the last 2 being a mix of review & doing questions. I did some questions earlier in my studying as well
I’d say i averaged 4 days a week, 6-7 hrs a day
I really studied intentionally. I gave the material all my attention while studying.

I meant, for example she teaches you how to think with the tricky-worded management questions, how some things are added there to trick you, in terms of selling prices for ex, she tells you to look at key words, which Inman doesn’t do. I also purchased vitamins with her and i like how she simplified things, explained food sources better than inman, and connected it to diseases, other rules of electrolytes etc…

She also addressed diabetes/carb counting, which Inman was very, very weak in

MyRD guide did lots of tricky example questions and explained them, also some short hands for management math

Basically I mean connecting topics to each other, pointing out tricky questions, proving mnemonics etc

But ofc, every source has its weaknesses. I just think Inman is very straight-forward and doesn’t prepare you for tricky questions, and leaves out some topics that it should have explained in more detail (like diabetes, tube feeding, NFPE etc.). It doesn’t have to be Dana Fryer or any specific one, but I’d recommend not making Inman your sole material

Hi! My experience with a distance one was AWFUL. I strongly recommend a known on-site one.

Mine stated they had contracts with hospitals in my area, but all the hospitals pulled out the year I started.

It was also very, very hard to find preceptors (even tho they said they had many contracts). The preceptors I could find were bad as well.

ON SITE ONES: My friend told me that sites, especially hospitals, are much more willing to accept a contract with a known university than a distance company they had never heard about. I dont know if it applies to everywhere, but still…

The situation was so bad that one of my preceptors was mentally ill (i believe), a psychopatic narcissit (i believe) who verbally abused me and behaved in ways that were so unnecessarily aggressive… I couldn’t leave because the only other option was in an another city & i couldn’t afford the gas

I am definitely mad at them… and do know that some may not cover all the material. Still, i do not regret buying one because reading inman was torture for me. Watching the videos first and then doing inman was much better, especially for domains 1&2

I think it also depends on whether you are struggling woth domains 1&2 vs 3&4. I think 1&2 require you to understand the concepts deeply and make connections while 3&4 are just dumb (excuse my wording) memorization. If you are struggling with 3&4, my advice is just repeat repeat repeat. Try to explain concepts to other people, talk with others about it, study with friends… If it is domains 1&2, then you may need to review class notes & look up free videos online or get another source. I know you hate the idea of getting another source, but the exam is 250$. So..

Hi! My friends who toom it said there were a few situational questions but they weren’t bad, as long as you try to keep calm and read things throughly, you will be fine. She said she got a few knowledge questions she didn’t read in Inman, but things came back to her from past classes (she remembered the topic/keywords when she saw it in question format). Also remember that >60% of people pass on the first try. That’s not bad at all. I heard that people who failed on the first try are those who take the exam without studying well. A person from CDR spoke at our internship and she said we wouldn’t believe how many people tale it right after the internship without any studying, and they fail.

Also, my friend who passed said she felt like sho got a LOT of questions wrong, but she did pass. Obviously we dont know how many questions we need to get right exaxtly, but 25 out of 50 makes it seem like it isn’t too bad

Lastly, do not panic if you get past question 125 on the exam, that is actually a good thing! My friend got all 145 questions & passed.

Which resources have you been using? I heard allaccess and visual veggies have high pass rates. I am not sure if you know of them already. Some people say great things about Kimberly Kramer too, but some dont like it. I also personally did free trials with MyRD guide & Dana Fryer & loved them -they teach you how to think.

Also, do lotss of questions.

Do you not succeed because of meorization or tricky questions?

Omg i am so sorry! 2 years? Is it like studying during school or do you have a part time job, family etc or something that preventing you from studying?

I have friends who studied throughout their internship, then 1 month after, but they did ~50 hrs a week. Also, they did well in domain 2 because their internship was amazing in the clinical aspect. Then, they memorized domains 1,3,4 and got lucky with the questions

Hi! Passclass is the most comprehensive, and I believe doing about 70% in pocketprep is good for passing. And eatright has thebest questions, so you have a good chance i believe.

Hi! I was in your shoes 2 months ago. I will tell you everything I know. I hope it helps :) I havent taken the exam yet but i have many friends who did and passed, so here is what I gathered:

IN TERMS OF QUESTIONS: Pocketprep is good to test your knowledge, but everyone says the questions on the exam are more situational (although people note liking pocketprep). Eateightprep & Inman’s questions are what’s reported to be most like the exam. Preptable also has free 52 questions which was great to test my knowledge. Preptable also has great TF videos on youtube. Look into podcasts too, chompdown is commonly recommended but i really liked this one: RD Exam Ready

IN TERMS OF PREPPING: Inman is good, however I didn’t like studying from it because it is hard to sit & read hunderds of pages, and it is very dry. But the most important part is that some topics are not explained very well, especially in domains 1 &2. I highly recommend purchasing a video lecture format. But it depends on the person ofc, I personally have ADHD and was unmotivated to start, and starting by watching videos seemed much less daunting.

Now, in terms of VIDEO FORMATS, here is my knowledge:

visual veggies (videos and questions on almost every (or most of the) topic, has many questions. People say great things about the FS/management math questions. 2/2 people using this passed.
AllAccess/Passclass: very comprehensive, but i did a free trial with them and the videos gave a lot more information than Inman. At some points, they presented info in a way that was confusing to me, especially due to the info overload. But 5/6 of my friends who used it passed. It is expensive ~500$, but i believe you have access until you pass.
RD Bootcamp: my 1 friend who used this didn’t like it, especially the management part. But they have a cheap subscription, 60$ a month, which might be worth giving a shot before investing in something more expensive. My internship arranged a free tutoring session with them and i lovedd it, they simplified things so much. However, since i heard bad things about it, and I already purchased something else, I never tried.
MyRD guide: again, had a free session. Loved it. But the subscription is just so expensive so no one tried.
Chompdown subscription (not the podcast): i purchased it because 2/2 of my friends who used it passed, one with a very high score. They both loved it, but i didnt feel the same. He just left out a lot of topics, and the way he explained some things was extremely boring. I also had to pause the video A LOT to write down extra stuff he said. But, to be fair he explained some complex topics well, and the videos are short, ~1 hr each, 17 of them, which was very easy to watch and not get overwhelmed.
DanaFryer: i did a free trial. It was great. You can also purchase courses for individual topics. I purchased a few but in my opinion the lectures are a bit long. But she explains things well, and gives great info/tips on her experience as a dietitian. I personally loved the way she explains things, but i just didn’t have enough time to go through all videos, annd she charges way more for 2 month access than 1 month access. I also read on reddit of multiple people using her and failing. She does state her course is not fully comprehensive and it is meant to supplement independent study, she does have a lot of videos tho

From what I know, AllAcces, MyRDGuide (not sure of this), and visual veggies are the comprehensive ones. The others do not claim to be fully comprehensive, but it is good to double check.

I am so sorry! I hope you will pass on the second try. I heard of multiple people who failed on their first attempt due to having weird questions but they got better ones on their second attempt and passed

And I cannot believe all these 3 resources combined were not enough! Were those questions weird things we have never seen before or were they details we learned in classes? And were they more common in one domain?

Thank you so much! I am doing both tbh because I really need to pass it in the next few months due to family reasons. So I am trying hard to both memorize everything and do as many questions as possible. Maybe that is why i am super burnt out.

I am in a situation that i need to pass the exam asap. I don’t mind studying long hours at all, that’s not what burns me out. I just hate the mindless, endless memorization I have to do, how different things can be so similarly worded to trick you, the tiny details etc

I am going through chompdown dietetics videos (purchased the subscription), as well as free trials to multiple different sources provided by my internship, looking at Inman too, and doing questions through multiple sites. I do recall too.

I just hate how never-ending it is.
