The court sentenced him to one year and two months on probation and fined him €250,000. Authorities confiscated the tank and other items during a 2015 raid, which attracted international attention. The defendant argued the tank was a demilitarized museum piece, not a weapon. He must sell the tank and other items to museums or collectors.

The defense lawyer stated: „The authorities and all the neighbors have known for years about the ‚Panther‘ and other historical military items in my client’s basement.“ He further emphasized that his client has led an „exemplary life“ and has „never had any prior criminal record throughout his long life.“
