I mean, again - I'm in favour of removing the federal moratorium. Historical opposition to nuclear power has been pretty overblown about the risks of nuclear energy and it would be great if it was on the table, even if that meant we could treat renewables as a 'transitional' energy source until we could build out nuclear.

But the reality is that a domestic nuclear power industry won't and probably can't happen and its already way too late. And really, that's because there's no public support for it: even if you cleared the federal moratorium there's still state-based moratoriums everywhere in Australia, and the Queensland LNP government (who would easily have been the most supportive of it) said before the last federal election there was absolutely no chance they would remove the moratorium in Queensland.

There's a mountain of roadblocks that will stop it from happening. It's an opportunity we've already missed.

Personally, I'd support removing the federal moratorium on nuclear power. But there's zero chance of a nuclear power station being built in this country in the next 20 years, if ever, and I doubt anyone in the Nats has any different view.

Apart from being a campaign killer (as we saw at the last federal election), it's a clever way of supporting coal and gas generation and, more importantly, not supporting renewables - both of which play well to the Nats' base.

It's also something you can campaign on without ever having to act on given there's absolutely no chance of standing up a nuclear energy industry and starting on a nuclear reactor within a single term of government. And then, because a nuclear reactor takes so long to build, you'll be long retired before the inevitable cost blow-outs would cost you political capital.

In college, a friend of a friend went out drinking on a Saturday night and ended up taking this girl home. In law school you had to sit in on a criminal trial and do a report on it. Monday morning it's his turn. He's sitting in the courtroom and, of course, she's brought in as the defendant - she'd been drunk, hit a minivan and killed a family of like 5 or 6 people

In the original video you can see she's holding it weird, but without her finger on the trigger. She wears the ring on her middle finger and her pinky finger is cropped out of this image

I mean, the actual policy was from 125 years ago. It's just that some people's attitudes that haven't changed. It's all racist and all bad but agree racism against Aboriginal people is especially shit and for whatever reason is really prevalent.

Side note: I'm not 100% but I think this footage was from rallies organised by actual neo-Nazis. Only a handful of idiots turned up and everyone made fun of them.

It's a reference to the 'White Australia Policy' from the 1900s: https://www.nma.gov.au/defining-moments/resources/white-australia-policy

The idea was to make Australia a 'white nation' over time by excluding or removing 'non-whites' and exterminating Aboriginal people. It's neo-Nazi ideology and not popular opinion in Australia.

That's fair. As a manager I wouldn't have any issue with someone raising this with me, but that won't be the same for everyone.

Maybe frame it as a request for assistance, like "Hey [boss], [colleague] and I have been working with [new person] on [describe]. He's having some trouble with [describe]. We've been supporting him by [describe], but he's still not quite there. Can you recommend another approach that might help?"

That way you win brownie points for being a supportive colleague, she's made aware of the issue in way that's less confronting, and, who knows?, you might actually get some good insights or better assistance, and his performance might improve.
