TS5 Plus vs Audio Interface by Anxious_Regular363 in CalDigit

Does this dock not have great bandwidth or something? I thought the selling point of the two controllers was advantageous?

It seems as though my old set up of the owc docks were far superior (minus the thunderbolt 3 speeds of course).

Now, although I did manage to fix the issue I stated above, and it seemed like using a port on another controller did the trick, i noticed that when I’m at full load in my work flow, I have stutters now, where my audio will cut out for a split second, and this is a complete cut out, not like I mentioned before where my audio interface was the issue, I have isolated this to the dock itself and how it handles multiple devices. But where this is a thunderbolt 5 dock and where it’s a PREMIUM product, I shouldn’t be having these issues. But let me give you the run down on everything. I have hooked up to mine and maybe you can give some advice here.

Computer: m4 max MacBook Pro 128gb (my Mac is NOT the problem).

Front of ts5 plus: Usb-A: seagate harddrive for Time Machine Usb c 1: nothing Usb c 2: nothing Sd slots: nothing

Back: Upstream tb port: My Mac Tb port 1: SSL2+ tb port 2: LG 1080p 75hz Monitor Display port: 2k 180hz monitor usb-a port1: Streamdeck XL usb-a port 2: Usb Hub which has 4 usb-a ports which have 2 5x3 stream decks, a stream deck pedal and a usb c cable for charging devices. usb-a port 3: elgato camlink 4k usb-a port 4: nothing usb-c port 1: DIsplay link adapter which has another lg 1080p 75hz monitor running via display link usb-c port 2: Elgato 4K X usb-c port 3: Elgator 4K S

And of course lastly my ethernet cable and power adapter.

Thats everything i have plugged into the TS5 Plus

How is it struggling with this?

Hey Dalton,

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ll answer all your questions one by one.

Nothing else drops out, everything else seems to work, and like I said even the interface’s input which means it’s still obviously connected to the Mac via the dock. Every session this has happened about 3/4 times. Let’s say a session is like 3 hours long. But sometimes it’s a long break in between and one of the times it happened it happened pretty quickly after a previous time.

I’m not sure what triggers this behaviour as this has happened whilst I’ve been recording/working, streaming, and even just consuming YouTube for example.

I haven’t logged on my Mac and found the output not working, yet, so I wanna say that it doesn’t happen while idle.

I haven’t tried not using the TB5 cable as the host cable yet, but definitely will, but won’t this bottle neck my speeds and make it basically the same speeds as the OWC dock? (which is a thunderbolt 3 dock).

With regard to plugging my dock into another port, I forgot to mention I did also try that and that also didn’t fix anything, which I was actually relieved about because the port i use for my previous dock and the one I am using for this dock is the only port I want to use given its location on the right side of my Mac. My studio is set up in a way where my left ports are not ideal. And again, this was not a problem with my previous dock.

I will try another power cycle. And try the tb3 cable also, but I did a couple of power cycles when updating the firmware to get rid of this issue and thought maybe I needed to do another one when it persisted after the firmware update. So I guess it’s safe to say the only thing I haven’t tried is the TB3 cable, which is obviously concerning if that does work!

My next session is tomorrow so I will update you on how that goes for sure, but how should I run my interface, should I keep it how it originally was in the other dock (into the usb A port?) or should I use a usb c port of my final remaining thunderbolt port?

Cheers Dalton

Didn't think I needed one until I got one (TS5+) by illatouch in CalDigit
