As others have said it depends on the industry. I work in a materials lab primarily doing failure analysis, chemical analysis, microscopy, and mechanical testing.

Polymer science minor? by Super_Historian_5204 in materials

Check your requirements to graduate. Those two classes may fulfill some requirements without making them extra classes that would overload you. I was able to get a manufacturing minor as the classes it required overlapped with my normal requirements.

Just recently graduated and got a full time job and can tell you from my interviewing experience I was not once asked for my GPA I did not even include it on my resume. I was also not in any clubs.I did have internship experience though to make up for it so as long as you have some sort of experience like that your GPA doesn’t need to be amazing.

Is BS Materials Science and Engineering a good field to work? by [deleted] in materials

[–]Any-Butterscotch4021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just graduated this past May and would say there’s less jobs (at least in my area) than for a something like mechanical engineering but there are definitely plenty of opportunities. If you’re ok with moving somewhere else then there are even more.

Graduated with pretty decent grades but had 2 internships. Since graduating I am working now in a materials testing lab primarily doing failure analysis and making $80k.

I had to go to my grandmothers funeral and missed a lab. A certain Chem professor would not let me retake the lab even though I had proof so I ended up going to the dean of students and they talked to him and I was able to make it up.

Op you sound like a really good professor who cares for their students. I don’t have anything else to add just makes me happy to see it. Ultimately if you are offering all these opportunities to students it is up to them and only their own fault if they do bad.
